Logo contest for pow-wow
The Pow-wow Committee is look
ing for a logo for the annual Grand
Ronde Pow-wow. The Pow-wow is
scheduled for August 14-16, 1998.
The Committee encourages anyone
interested in entering the contest to
submit your artwork to:

April 15, 1998. The artist of the cho
sen logo will be awarded $100 and a
jacket with the logo. We encourage
everyone to enter. This contest in not

Public comment period: THREE CREEKS LOGGING UNIT
SALE OF TIMBER, GRAND RONDE INDIAN RESERVATION, Three
Creeks Logging Unit, located in a portion of the Southern Vz Section 17, Town
ship 5S, Range 8W, Willamette Meridian, Yamhill County, Oregon. This
Logging Unit contains approximately 51.7 acres to be cut with a timber vol
ume of approximately 3,634 MBF sawlogs of all species. This consists of an
estimated volume of 3,576 MBF of Douglas-fir and Other Conifers - Peeler
and Sawmill Grade Logs at a minimum bid rate of $513.84 per thousand
board feet net scale, a predetermined volume of 57 MBF of Red Alder and
Other Hardwoods - Peeler and Sawmill Grade Logs at a lump sum payment of
$14,106.09, and all Conifer Species - Wood Logs and Other Wood Products
at the predetermined rate of $123.17 per thousand board feet gross scale.
The above stated volumes are estimates and are not guaranteed.
Bid opening will take place at the Grand Ronde Natural Resources Facility,
47010 SW Hebo Road, Grand Ronde, Oregon, at 10:00 a.m., Local Time, on
Tuesday, April 14, 1998. Full information concerning the timber, sample
Logging Unit contract, conditions of the sale, and submission of bids should
be obtained from the NR Division Manager, Confederated Tribes of Grand

public comment and input on the proposed alternatives for the Hiyu Stick
Logging Unit, located in portions of Sections 7 & 8, Township 5 South, Range

Law Enforcement camp for teens
High school juniors and seniors in
terested in a future law enforcement
related careers are urged to apply for
the Oregon Kiwanis Law Enforce
ment Camp, June 21-26 at the Oregon
Police Academy in Monmouth.
Camp members will go through a
rigorous 66 hour state-certified train
ing similar to the Basic Police train
ing law enforcement officers receive.
The mission of the course is to assist
students in deciding if they are physi
cally and emotionally suited for the
future careers in law enforcement.
Enrollment is limited to 11th and 12th
graders with excellent grades and the
sponsorship of a local Kiwanis Club,
high school counselor, or local law
enforcement agency. All applicants
are subject to a criminal records back
ground check.
Some courses at the camp include:
Basic Criminal Investigation, Court
Procedures, Traffic Investigation and
Enforcement, Firearms Safety, Stress
Management, Ethics, Standards and
Physical Fitness. Successful gradu
ates receive a diploma and a state cer
tification letter to receive academic
credit for the class.
Applicants are being accepted
through May 15, 1998. Capacity for
the camp is fifty students, chosen on
a first come, first served basis. For
applications contact the Yamhill
County Sheriffs Office central sta
tion in the Yamhill County Court
house, West Valley Substation at
Sheridan City Hall or the Dayton and
Lafayette Sheriffs substations.
