Clarification of service area
In the last issue of Smoke Signals the Grand
Ronde Tribal Housing Authority (GRTHA) pub
lished revisions made to the housing policies.
The Housing Program's 10-County Service Area
includes the following counties: Polk, Yamhill,
Marion, Tillamook, Washington, Multnomah,
Clackamas, Linn, Binton, and Lincoln.
The Emergency Repair Grant is up to $3,000
to qualified low income tribal homeowners in the
10-County Service Area, for emergency repair
assistance to address health and safety conditions.
The Major Rehabilitation Grant is up to
$20,000 to low income tribal homeowners in the
10-County Service Area, for major repairs to
bring their residence up to standard condition.
The Deferred Payment Loan is a no-interest
loan of up to $20,000 that does not require in
stallment payments, made to low income
homeowners in the 10-County Service Area only
in combination with the Major Rehabilitation
Grant.
The Down Payment Grant is up to $10,000
for "first time" homebuyers for down payment
on the purchase of a home in standard condi
tion. This is eligible to tribal members that re
side anywhere in the United States.

Safety is top priority for Tom Misfeldt and Casino
As Safety Manager and Em
ployee Relations Specialist for
Spirit Mountain Casino, Tom
Misfeldt serves an important
role. He oversees all employee
relations and safety functions and
manages a staff of three people.
It is his job to work with insur
ance companies and help mini
mize the risk of injury to employ
ees at the Casino. Prior to work
ing for the Casino, Tom held a
similar position with Payless
Drug Stores.
"I deal with insurance compa
nies, negotiate insurance and pur
chase, take bids when we renew
a policy, and work with our staff to help injured
employees return to work," he said.

growth and success the Casino
has enjoyed.

young members to represent their Tribe
with pride and dignity. It is an obligation
which requires a lot of time and commitment, but
it's also a tremendous honor. If this is something
you would like to do, please fill out an application
from EITHER the Grand Ronde Royalty OR the
Veterans' Royalty and return it to the address given
on the application form. Girls cannot participate
in both the Veterans' Royalty and the Grand Ronde
Royalty, so please choose the Royalty Court you
are most interested in.
VETERANS' ROYALTY AGE GUIDELINES -Junior
Queen must be 9 to 13 years of age as of
July 10, 1998; and Senior Queen must be 14 to 18
years of age as of July 10, 1998. For more infor

years of age; Honorary Court may be any age.
