Congratulations to Connie Lopez
On December 16, 1997, tribal member
Connie (Mercier) Lopez was awarded a Cer
tificate of Recognition of her twenty-five years
of service in the Government of the United
States of America.
Connie works for the BIA as a teacher at
Santa Rosa Boarding Day School on the
Papago Indian Agency at Sells, Arizona. The
Tribe wishes to congratulate Connie, as it is
only through the unselfish service of dedi
cated employees, such as Connie, that the Bu
reau can achieve its mission. Connie is the
oldest daughter of Darrel and Ruth Mercier.
Exhibit to arrive
A much-awaited exhibition of a
bronzed basket will take place on
Tuesday, March 10, beginning at 1
p.m. at the Community Center. The
basket is coming to Grand Ronde
before permanently being placed in
a rail depot exhibit. Tri-Met hopes
that the exhibit will be viewed by
tribal members and the community.
Annabelle (Peachie) Hamm and
Marie Schmidt requested that this
basket be exhibited at Grand Ronde.
The basket was most recently dis
played at the Hillsboro Light Rail Sta

I Under the General Committee Ordinance section (f) MEMBERSHIP: Only
tribal members and staff may serve as voting members on the committees.
All committee members must physically reside within the tribal Six (6) County
Service Area during their term of office. In addition, (A): Individuals may
serve on only one committee at a time, provided, however, an individual may
I serve on the Pow-wow or the Elders' Committee and one other committee at
the same time.
Under section (k) CONFLICTS OF INTEREST: No committee shall have
more than one immediate family member serving in a voting capacity at one
1 time on that committee. No committee member may vote on any action di
rectly involving a member of his or her immediate family. A committee mem
ber may take part in discussion and count toward a quorum regarding action
involving a member of his or her family. Immediate family members include
the natural father, natural mother, adoptive mother, adoptive father, daugh-
ter, son, spouse, person in spousal relationship, brother, sister, stepbrother
and stepsister.
Under the Pow-wow Committee Ordinance section (c) Committee Estab-
lished; Membership 2. The Committee shall have a minimum of five (5)
voting members, at least one (1) of whom is a Tribal Council member. Any
number of staff members may serve on the Committee at one time. The Tribal
I Council at its option may appoint more than five (5) voting members if it
deems necessary. In addition, 4. The members shall be appointed by the
Tribal Council. 5. The Tribal Council shall make the annual appointment of
members to the Committee no later than the end of November. There is no
I limit on the number of terms a member may serve. Further, 8. The Commit-
Q tee may establish sub-committees when and if it deems necessary.
