Last year the Grand Ronde Veterans' Color
Guard asked for tribal girls to participate in a new
"Veterans' Royalty" who would travel to different
veterans' events, pow-wows, and cultural
gatherings that the Color Guard would also be
attending. Now, in addition to Grand Ronde
Royalty, girls may also apply to be involved in the
Veterans' Royalty. The Veterans' Royalty also
appears at the Grand Ronde pow-wow and other
Grand Ronde tribal events.
If you or someone you know is interested in
participating in a Royalty Court for the upcoming
year, now is the time to start thinking about it.
Royalty Court is an excellent chance for young
members to represent their Tribe with pride and
dignity. It is an obligation which requires a lot of
time and commitment, but it's also a tremendous
honor. If this is something you would like to do,
please fill out an application from EITHER the
Grand Ronde Royalty OR the Veterans' Royalty
and return it to the address given on the application
form. Girls cannot participate in both the Veterans'
Royalty and the Grand Ronde Royalty, so please
choose the Royalty Court you are most interested
in. Entries for Veterans' Royalty must be received
by Tuesday, March 3, 1998.

Archaelological Site Monitor
Program: Cultural Resources Protection
Status: On-call
Responsible for working with the Cultural Resources
Specialist to protect and preserve culturally signigicant
sites. Duties include monitoring various project activi
ties at different site locations ranging from the south
shore of the Columbia River to the California border.
Potential candidates must have good oral and written
communication skills and be able to work without direct
supervision and be willing to accept training. Posses
sion of a valid Oregon Driver's License and a safe driv
ing record is required.
Overall responsibilities:
1 . Monitoring and collecting data at archeological sites.
2. Writing observational reports on site activities.
3. Maintaining a daily log of work activities.
4. Preparing and conducting oral presentations on work
activities for cultural resources staff and others.
5. Maintain regular communication and correspondence
with technical professionals including archeologists, park
rangers, and resources management specialists.
6. Ability to travel and work in an outdoor environment.
