Determination is key to
Tammy Chavez's success Z A

Chavez started her job as
a Bingo Admission Clerk
on June 24, and in six
short months, has won
the praise and recogni
tion worthy of an outstanding employee.
Last spring Tammy earned her Clerical
Basic Training Certificate from Chemeketa
Community College (CCC) in Salem, and ap
plied at the Human Resources office after
that. "I actually had an application on file,"
Tammy said. "But I contacted Camille (Mer
cier) and she urged me to come in and up
date it, now that I had finished school."
Tammy said after she did that, everything
happened within a couple of weeks. "I had
a job here before I knew it," she said.
Most of her career has been spent caring
for the elderly and the disabled, and after
finishing up at CCC, she wanted a change
of pace.
"What I like about the Casino, is that I
get to do something different every day. I
perform various customer service duties, an-

swer questions people
have about the bingo
games, handle money,
and other tasks. But I
am always meeting
new and interesting
people," she said.
Tammy likes the fact
that even after only
working for six
months, she has got
ten to know many of
the bingo regulars, so
not only is she always
meeting new people,
but she gets to visit with the folks who al
ready recognize her.
Part of Tammy's long-term goals involve
going back to school and earning an
Associate's degree. She has always liked
numbers and accounting, and hopes there
is a future for her in that area. She will con
tinue to work for the Casino while going to
school.
Born and raised in Oregon, this mother of
four girls is used to life's challenges and
tackles each one zealously.
"The most challenging task I have had to
face in this job has been learning to work
with customers effectively," she said. "My
next big challenge in life will be juggling
school, work, and family all at once." Just
like everything else she has done, Tammy
has the determination to make it all work.

Grand Ronde Health and Wellness Center: If you are eligible for Contract Health and you
wish for Contract Health to continue paying for your co-pays for prescriptions, you must
have those prescriptions filled at the Pharmacy in the new clinic. If you chose to have them
filled elsewhere without authorization from Contract Health, you will be responsible to pay
for the prescription in full. If you have any questions, please call Contract Health Services

Election Board
Do you wonder what the Election Board
does? Do you wonder how decisions about
the election process are made? Are you
interested in being part of the election pro
cess? If you answer "yes" to any of these
questions, think about applying for a seat
as a Board member or alternate.
Voting and being part of the tribal election
process are two of the most important ways
people can contribute to their tribe. As we
begin to prepare for the 1998 elections, we
hope you will think about joining us.

At the December 7th General Council
meeting, tribal member Roger Harrison pre
sented to me a ceramic "Jurassic Park" di
nosaur scene. The main part of Roger's
work shows a Tyrannosaurus Rex attack
ing a Stegosaurs. If you look at it closely,
you will see smaller dinosaurs as well.
This is a gift I'll always cherish, since I
have been a dinosaur fan decades before
Jurassic Park became a box office hit in the
theaters. Thank you so much, Roger!!!
