November 15, 1997 SMOKE SIGNALS 7 Employee Spotlight Misty Gepharf keeps busy in Housekeeping The Housekeeping staff at the Casino are really the behind-the-scenes heroes of Spirit Mountain Casino. They keep everything looking nice, which is why so many people enjoy themselves and want to come back to the Casino. And tribal member Misty Gephart says it's also a lot of fun. "It's really hard work, but I like it. We have a lot of fun, and the there is so much to do, the day just seems to fly by," she said. Misty works swing shift, during the Casino's busiest time of day, and spends her work hours wiping down machines, cleaning and freshening ashtrays, and cleaning the bath rooms. She said, "Basically, I create a route for myself in what ever section I'm assigned to for the evening, and just keep rotating through that route. Misty, who has four children and lives in Willamina was a stay at home mom for a long time before she and her hus band decided that it was in the family's best interest to have a second income. They thought the Casino would be the best place to start, so Misty got in touch with the Human Resources (HR) department last year, and was placed in Housekeeping. "I like my shift, because during the day I can be at home with my baby, and the other kids are in school, so we don't pay much for child care," she said. By the time Misty is leaving for work, her husband is home from his job in Sheri dan, so the kids almost always have a parent at home with them. Misty says it has been a hard adjustment, not seeing her children as much as when she wasn't work ing, but things are going well. "I also had a meeting with Camille Merrier in HR and talked about taking some computer classes and gain ing some other skills," she said. There are many things Misty said she likes about her job: all the benefits, the personal time off program, and the team spirit she has with others in Housekeeping. Also, Misty said she has more energy and has lost a couple of dress sizes since working in Housekeeping, because of how busy she is all the time on her shift. uS? flpES 1 L K S .
