Tribal member Mike Linton passes away
William Michael
"Mike" Linton, 44,
of Brookings, died
August 16. Mike was
born in McMinnville
on June 9, 1953 to
Gordon "Tim" and
Caroline Linton, of
Brookings.
He worked in the
timber industry since
the age of 18, and
was employed at
South Coast Ply
wood Company at
the time of his death.
Mike is survived
by his wife Chris of
Brookings; daughter
Dawn McMillian and son Eric, both of Cen
tral Point; stepson Charles "Herk"
Studervant and stepdaughter Tina Hines,
both of Crescent City; and twelve grand
children. Also surviving are his parents Gordon and
Caroline of Brookings; grandmother Doris
Voutrin of Barlow; brothers Les Linton of
Lake Oswego and Greg Linton of Trinidad,
California; sister Chris Parke of Brookings.
Mike was a proud member of the Grand
Ronde Tribe, an avid hunter, and he enjoyed
competition darts. He also was a strong
family man. He was a caring, outreaching
person to not only his immediate family, but
also of his extended family including aunts,
uncles, nieces and nephews.
Family memories of Mike include his love
for the "babies" and children, and all the
way to the oldest adult in the family. Some
memories of Mike recognize him as a "great
baby-sitter," and the "best friend" of sister,

Chris. He loved good cooking, especially
his mom's gravy.
Growing up, he wasn't alone, as he had
younger brothers. Since he was the eldest
of the boys, he spent much time pulling them
around in their wagon. This apparently was
the beginning of his life of doing for others.
He was always the first one to volunteer
when it came to helping out, especially for
those who were hurting or down on their
luck. One of Mike's activities, along with
his brothers and sister, was a two-week trip
to visit his Grandma and Grandpa Voutrin.
The depth of the meaning of his relation
ships with family and friends is reflected in
the fact that he kept every card that was
given to him in a special drawer. These in
cluded Christmas, Birthday, or any card re
vealing special expression from another per
son to him. Many people in Mike's commu
nity thought of him as a son, and his friend
ship was felt by many.
