Six years ago there was a position open for a Business Development Specialist. I had a little experience in research ing and writing business plans, and running a small busi ness. Although I didn't expect to get the job, I applied. I didn't meet the educational requirements so needless to say I didn't get the job. But I did, however, follow-up with a phone call. I called the Small Business Development Cen ter inquiring about what would be the most valuable and helpful courses for me to study in school to get this job. So I did just what was suggested to me; I studied Business Administration with an emphasis on accounting and finance. Additionally, I completed a marketing internship for the Silctz Tribe and an official minor concentration of studies in Environmental Science and Regional Planning. In May I completed my Bachelor's degree and graduated with hon ors from Washington State University, Vancouver branch campus. Luckily, thcrejust happened to be a position open for a Business Development Specialist; my dream job and new position with the Tribe. I put in a lot of time and hard work, and my family made a lot of sacrifices for me to reach my goals. I realize that if it hadn't been for the Tribe's Higher Education grant and scholarship programs, I would not have been able to get through school and raise my family. THANK YOU TRIBE!! Your support and encouragement is greatly ap preciated more than words can express. i. v I I hope I can serve as an example and encourage other single mothers to realize their goals; because if I can do it, so can you. Thanks again Grand Ronde Tillicum.
