Wellness Component continues teaching youth
"FIRST PLACE" FOURTH OF JULY FLOAT. The Confederated Tribes of Grand
Ronde, Human Services Division - Wellness Component's float entry won first place in
the Willamina "Old Fashioned 4th" parade on July 4th. The float was designed and
decorated by volunteer tribal staff and parents of children in the tribal summer activities
programs. Claudette Parazoo loaned her small tipi as the focus point, natural plants and
flowers were gathered from the reservation (a permit was obtained from the Tribal Natu
ral Resources) along with Pendleton blankets for decoration. Volunteers included Teri
and Tim HolsclaW, Jill Jeffers, Cindy Martin-Butler, Doug Colton, Cathy Steere, Pearl
Mekemson, Mandy and Melissa Mekemson, Bob Mercier, Mike Colton, Lenny Logan,
and Bonnie Tom. Children on the float were Bryan Gore; Winston and Seth Mercier;
Stacia, Kylea, and Rylan Martin; Halona and Leland Butler, Jr.; Julie and Jada Endicott;
JR and Allan
Mekemson. It was
an exciting experi
ence for the children
to be in the parade
and to share candy
and prizes that were
donated by tribal
staff. Thank You to
all participants!

BIKE SAFETY RODEO. This annual event teaches children many safety techinques
such as crazy crossroads, driveway rideout, hand signals, stop sign and stop light safety.
Volunteers setup obstacle courses, and have a bike maintenance area where they check
over their entire bike.
