Junior Achievement lis a non-profit organization financed by over 100,000 businesses, foundations, and individu als. Founded in 1919 by Horace A. Moses, president of Strathmore Paper Company, Junior Achievement has con tributed to the business and economics education of young people in 3,300 communities in the United States. Over 57,000 volunteers present Junior Achievement Programs each year. It's purpose is to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, understand business and economics and be workforce ready. The program is de signed for specific grade levels, and each grade covers a unique aspect of business and economics. Each session offers an exciting 12 hour lesson with special activities. The kids really enjoy the program, and volunteers learn too. This is the second year that the Tribe has sponsored Jun ior Achievement. Last year the Program focused on Grand Ronde Elementary School. Plans for next year include ex panding the middle school program and reaching Willamina High School students. A unique aspect of the Junior Achievement program is the community involvement component bringing local businesspeople into the classroom. Both students and their teachers appreciated each volunteer's efforts and energy in the classroom. The following Casino employees donated their time and energies to present Junior Achievement in the local schools. Volunteers donated a minimum of 5 hours of classroom time.
