Trudy Gleason arrives at her dream job
Now that Spirit Mountain Casino has been
offering Let It Ride and Pai Gow poker, Trudy
Gleason has been having even more fun than
usual in her job as a dealer. She was trained in
the Fall of 1 995 at dealing blackjack.. She has
been dealing for the past eight months, since
she moved from her Floor Supervisor position.
Although an employee of the Casino since
1995, dealing cards is what Trudy calls her
"dream job."
Trudy is a tribal member who grew up in
the Stayton area, and comes from a family who
loves cards and card games. She knew that
she wanted to work for the Casino even before
it opened. "I started work in October of 1995
as a Floor Supervisor," she said. "Now I can't
imagine working anywhere else. My parents
always took vacations and went to casinos. I
have always wanted to be blackjack dealer. It
looked like so much fun."
Trudy learned about the Casino job open
ings at the Job Fair that was held at Chemeketa
Community College in Salem, shortly before the Casino
opened its doors. In August of 1995, she took several dif
ferent training courses that were required, and was hired as
a Floor Supervisor. After three months of work, Trudy re
ceived a very high evaluation from her supervisor. She has
visited other casinos in Oregon and knows that Spirit Moun
tain Casino has mastered the formula for success. "The
customer service and customer relations at this casino is
really better than most," she said.

Trudy said that the friendships she's made with her co
workers is one of the most important aspects of the last
year and a half of work at the Casino.
"Not only is this an excellent place to work, but I have
had the chance to meet new people who come in and get to
know my co-workers. We all get along really well." Even
though Trudy has a different schedule than when she started,
she still sees the co-workers who she's made friends with
and is looking forward to dealing the new poker games.
