Casino community fund donates to Lifeflight Network
The Tribe and Spirit Mountain Casino have announced
the first recipient of the Spirit Mountain Community
Fund. Tribal Council presented the Life Flight Net
work a check for $174,000, which will enhance Life Flight's
ability to save lives in medical emergencies in rural Oregon.
The grant will make Life Flight the first helicopter medical
service in the nation to implement state-of-the-art satellite
navigation system (the Global Positioning System), which
will greatly increase Life Flight's ability to pinpoint exact
accident scene locations and flight routes, and to provide
medical rescues in bad weather.
The grant will fund weather stations and other equipment
necessary to implement the satellite navigational system in
Tillamook, Silctz Bay, and Grand Rondc.
During a ceremony held at Legacy Emanuel Hospital in
Portland, members of Tribal Council presented Larry Edcal,
Life Flight Aviation Manager, with the Fund's check for
$174,000.
Life Flight officials stressed that Life Flight would not be
able to go ahead with the GPS system without the grant from
Spirit Mountain.
"This grant will greatly enhance the Network's ability to
save lives in Western Oregon and will increase our ability to
pinpoint accident scenes and make rescues in adverse weather
conditions," said John Mitchell. "We arc proud to be part
ners with the Spirit Mountain Casino Community Fund."
Kathryn Harrison, Tribal Council Chair, said that health
care and medical services carry great value for our Tribe and
our neighbors. "We know from experience that getting people
quick medical treatment can make a difference between life
and death," she said. "Just as Spirit Mountain Casino has
enabled the Tribe to help itself, we want to help others. Be
fore the Casino opened, we had no idea that the Tribe would
be in a position to help so many people."
