Shop with a Sheriff
A group of children from Grand Ronde Elemen
tary were chosen to participate in the 1st Annual
"Shop with a Sheriff' program. Each child was
allowed $25 to spend at the Dallas Wal-Mart on
Christmas gifts for their family. Volunteers from
the Polk County's Sheriff Office (which included
SALT and Oregon Stale Police) and the Service In
tegration Team assisted them with their shopping.
This event, sponsored by the Grand Ronde Ser
vice Integration Team, provided an opportunity
for the children to purchase otherwise unobtain
able gifts for their families. It also offered both
the children and the "in uniform" deputies the op
portunity to interact on a social, not "official,"
level, forming an early, positive relationship be
tween law enforcement and children.
