Doug Stone to play at Spirit Mountain nThe popular country singer has been called a "true showman" and will bring his balladeer image to Oregon. Popular country singer Doug Stone will play at Spirit Mountain Casino on Thursday, December 7. Discovery by a manager who had travelled to Stone's hometown of Newman, Georgia (outside of Atlanta) to catch his act began his long career in country music. His debut album put his first single "I'd Be Better Off (In a Pine Box)" in the top five songs in 1990 and it stayed on the charts just a little under six months. This set a precedent for Stone's future chart record: every single released from his first six albums has placed in the top five, eight of which soared to number one! "I'd Be Better Off (In a Pine Box) " was nominated for a Grammy Award in 1991. Besides his debut album, Stone has recorded six others, the most popular of which include Thought It was You; From The Heart; More Love; and most recently Faith In Me, Faith In You. He also has a Greatest Hits album and a Christmas album. Stone says influences in his career have been Jim Reeves, Loretta Lynn, Randy Travis, James Taylor, and Elvis Presley. He has appeared on "CBS This Morning" and "Live With Regis and Kathie Lee" to perform songs. Stone also has a lead role in the Disney movie "Gordy." Although he has enjoyed success and notoriety these past few years, Stone says that he values his health more than anything in life. Just a year ago, he suffered a heart attack while dining at a restaurant at Charlotte International Air port. Three years earlier, he underwent triple bypass sur gery. Stone made a vow to reduce his stress level and get on with his life. And there is no denying it's truly a life worth living. Other top hits Doug Stone will likely perform at the Ca sino include "A Jukebox With A Country Song, " "Four teen Minutes Old, " "I Thought It Was You, " and "Ad dicted To A Dollar."
