You can join nearly 80 million Americans in showing your support for a healthy, drug free lifestyle by celebrating Red Ribbon Week! Red Ribbon Week is dedicated to Enrique Camarena, a drug enforcement agent who was killed by drug traffickers in Mexico in 1985. In response to his death, angered par ents across the country began wearing Red Ribbons to sym bolize their commitment to being healthy and drug-free. In 1988, National Family Partnership sponsored the first National Red Ribbon. The Red Ribbon began as a symbol of hope for people taking a stand against illegal drugs, and today it still stands as a symbol of Enrique's belief that one person can make a difference in the fight against drugs. Help make a difference by showing your support for drug prevention during this year's Red Ribbon Week. Here are some simple ideas to get you started: Wear a Red Ribbon to work, to school, everywhere you go! B Encourage your co-workers, employees, friends and families to wear Red Ribbons. B Help plan a Red Ribbon Celebration event a parade, a rally, a drug-free carnival or festival. B Contact your legislature and ask them what they are doing to keep kids off drugs.
