The park covers about five acres and has over a 12 mile of nature trails. When completed, the park will contain educational signs which will explain subjects from riparian areas to stream restoration. It will also have tags identifying the common plants of the area. One thing we don't have is a name for the park. We are seeking suggestions from all tribal members for a name for the park. We are open to all suggestions, but here are some of the ideas we have so far. 1. OLALLIE DAY PARK. Olallie is the original Chi nook term for salmon berry, a plant species very common in the park. 2. MOW1TCH DAY PARK: This is the Chinook term for deer, but the term was often used for other animals. 3. HIYU DAY PARK: Hiyu is the Chinook term for storm. The park has already gone through two of Oregon's largest storms last winter while it was being built. 4. AGENCY CREEK DAY PARK: No need to explain this basic name. Obviously, most of the names listed above come from Chinook jargon. If anyone knows any names based on the language of the original five tribes of the reservation we would love to hear them. This is your park and your land; the name should reflect that. You can send your suggestions to: The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Fish and Wildlife Department P.O. Box 70, Willamina, OR 97396 Or you may call Kelly Doerksen at 1-800-422-0232. EDUCATIONAL DAY USE PARK.
