The preferred level of preparation for this position is 6 to 1 8 months of post high-school specialized job skills training in child care or early childhood education. The skills and know ledge taught at this level are directly applicable to the work performed and would not over-qualify the average person with this level of education and training. Chemical Dependency Counselor POSITION NUMBER: 96-36 DIVISION: Nanitch Sahallie Youth Residential Treatment Center in Keizer, Oregon JOB LEVEL: 9 CLASSIFICATION: Exempt CLOSING DATE: MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 15, 1996 PURPOSE OF POSITION: Is a member of a multi disciplinary team in an intensive residential chemical dependency treatment program that uses a holistic approach designed to empower Native American youth to make choices which allow them to lead happy healthy productive lives while being clean and sober. Counselors establish treatment plans and pro vide counseling while monitoring treatment progress. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & TRAINING: Must posses an Associate's degree or completion of equivalent technical training and ex perience. LENGTH OF WORK EXPERIENCE: The work per formed by this position requires the incumbent to possess over 3 years up to and including 5 years of work experience in chemical dependency and family counseling in a residential treatment facility. SPECIAL LICENSING AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: 1 . First Aid and CPR Certificate. 2. Minimum Certification as Chemical Dependency Counselor I with certification as CDS II required when experience and coursework requirements are met. 3. The tutor assistant provides tutorial assistance in classrooms for students needing special attention and participates with staff in providing youth education and cultural activities as part of the before and after school care program. LEVEL OF FORMAL ACADEMIC TRAINING: The lowest level, most common or typical level of formal academic training and the preferred level of preparation for this position possessed by qualified persons is 6 to 18 months of post high-school specialized job skills training in child care or early childhood education. It is the level possessed by the majority of those who have qualified or would qualify for placement into this position. The skills and knowledge taught at this level are directly applicable to the work performed and would not over-qualify the average person with this level of education. The preferred level is an associate's degree in early childhood education or 1 8 months or more of training in the field.
