3rd ANNUAL SPIRITUALITY ENCAMPMENT
The 3rd Annual Spirituality Encampment was attended by more than 100 people on
July 12 to 14. The encampment started on Friday night at 7 p.m. with a mini pow-wow
"Honoring the Children." The children were the focus of the pow-wow and were hon
ored with gifts. Saturday the temperature rose to 90-plus degrees and activities were
modified to include an afternoon at the river. The evening meal was attended by many
well relaxed families with a sweat held later in the evening. The event ended on Sunday
with sweats and a talking circle.
The Spirituality Encampment Committee would like to thank all who attended the
encampment. We enjoyed getting acquainted with new people and spending time with
; friends and family. It was a very exciting weekend for us. We would also like to thank
the following people for making the weekend possible: the Grand Ronde Tribal Veter
ans Buddy Haskins, Marcellus Norwcst, Butch LaBonte, Merle Leno, and Randy
Leno; the members of the Pow-wow Committee for putting up the tipis and the fry bread
stand Merle Leno, Claudia Leno, Christie, Jim Butler; Vivian DeMary and Mike
Reibach for leading the sweats; Ken Powers for building the BBQ pit and preparing the
grounds at the sweat; the Forestry Youth Group; the Natural Resources staff; the Tribal
