Watson was inducted into the National Honor Society. A.J. has been on the Honor Roll for the last six quarters at Algonquin Junior High School in Dcs Plaines, Illinois. He will attend Maine West High School next year. A.J. is the son of Doug Watson and grandson of Robert Watson. Keep up the good work, A.J.! II ft Tribal member to attend Olympic games Hi! My name is Shannon Simi and I'm 13 years old and daughter of Janet Gore. I was entered in a National Contest with the Boys and Girls Club of Salem. I was chosen as one of the ten grand prize winners in the Nike P.L.A.Y. Daily Jackie Joyner-Kcrsce World Class Challenge. I will be attending the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, from July 2 1 to July 26. I get to attend five Olym pic events. They arc: Greco-Roman Wres tling, Beach Volleyball, Men's Team Hand ball, Volleyball, and Track Cycling. I achieved this honor to be in this contest by winning the jump-rope challenge, the hula-hoop challenge, and the volleyball challenge. I received a picture personally autographed by Jackie Joyner-Kersce, and I will also get to meet her in person while I am there. This is all sponsored by the Boys and Girls Club Association, and the Nike Jackie-Joyner-Kersce World Class Challenge. Mark's co-workers noted his perfect attendance since he began working at the Casino, his devotion to his job, de pendability, and his outgoing personality. If you arc interested in attending this ceremony please contact Michael Reibach at 879-5490. . -Tfa'- " it Elder Spotlight Royalty wins top honors in local parades; plans upcoming events The Grand Ronde Royalty Court won First Place Awards for their floats in both the Willamina Fourth of July Parade and Cloverdale Days Parade held this month. Good job, Girls! We are proud of the way you are representing the Tribe. Additionally, the bingo fund-raiser they held at the Casino was the most profitable fund-raising effort ever. More than $800 was raised for Royalty's yearly activities. Royalty would like to thank all those who participated in making the bingo night such a wonderful success. Royalty will also appear at the Coburg Pow-wow and Parade on July 1 9 and 20, as well as attend the Siletz Annual Pow-wow on August 9 and 10. Future plans include a special luncheon at Legends, where they will meet with this year's Royalty judges. Marion Forster Marion was born December 5, 1917 in Grand Rondc. Her parents were Julius and Gertrude Mcrcicr. Her grandparents were John B. and Hattie Hudson. Marion has four sisters: Nadine McNutt and Norma Lewis; and Dorothy Forster and , Barbara Thomas, who have both passed away. Marion went to school in Grand Rondc and Cheniawa, and married Frank Forster on June 12, 1937. They lived in Sweet Home, Sa lem, and Bend for 40 years. She has one daughter, Sharon Hanson. Marion's two granddaughters are Shelley and Rhonda Hanson. Shelley is the mother of Marion's only great-grandchild, Kayla Lcno. Frank and Marion moved back to the Willamette Valley in 1985, settling in Rickreall. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 1987. Frank passed away in 1988 of Leukemia. Marion then moved to her present home in Salem. She enjoys reading, cro cheting, tribal activities, and spending time with the Elders. iLA I - ' 1 i , .-.j. -rt. .
