July 15, 1996 SMOKE SIGNALS 5 Bids wanted for Running Bear Logging Unit Trainings for tribal members offered SALE OF TIMBER, GRAND RONDE INDIAN RESERVATION, Running Bear log ging Unit, located in a portion of Section 7, Township 5S, Range 8W, Willamette Merid ian, Yamhill County, Oregon. This logging unit contains approximately 77 acres to be cut with a timber volume of approximately 3,743,000 board feet sawlogs of all species. This consists of an estimated volume of 3,670,000 board feet of Red Alder and other Hard woods - Peeler and Sawmill Grade Logs at a lump sum payment of $20,348.02, and all Conifer Species - Wood logs and Other Wood Products at the predetermined rate of $33.96 per thousand board feet gross scale. The above stated volumes arc estimates and arc not guaranteed. Bid opening will take place at the Grand Rondc Community Center located at 9615 Grand Ronde Road, Grand Rondc, Oregon at 3:00 p.m. on July 23, 1996. In response to Tribal Council and general membership concerns, the Education Divi sion, in collaboration with Spirit Mountain Human Resources, is planning and scheduling new training programs for tribal members. The focus will be the training needs of mem bers seeking employment with Spirit Mountain Casino. On July 26, a Customer Service workshop will be conducted for tribal members whose applications arc pending as well as recently hired personnel. Training will be provided through the services of Wirtz West Associates, an organization which specializes in cus tomer relations. The presenter will be Barbara Wirtz West, a dynamic presenter with impressive credentials. The workshop will revolve around such themes as communica tion, developing positive attitudes, and techniques in customer service and appeasement, not unlike the Casino's slogan: "Your smile is our only business" Future expansion goals call for the building of a hotel near the Casino. As both the Tribe and Spirit Mountain expand, so will the Education Division's training programs. The Band-aid Brief: Poison Oak By Dr. Glenn Gerritz, M.D. Poison Oak afflicts 50 of people who come in contact with it. Poison Oak is a plant from the Rhus family that has three lobed shiny leaves with rounded borders. If possible, it is best to quickly shower with plenty of soap, and change clothes af ter exposure to poison oak. Mild poison oak (red rash and itching) can be treated with calamine lotion and over-the-counter antihistamines. Moderate cases (red streaks and small blister formation) require prescriptions of high-potency cortisone creams. Severe poison oak (widespread rash and blister formation) requires oral or intramus cular injections of cortisone. Poison oak is a contact dermatitis caused by sensitized Lymphocytes in our body to the plant. Allergy injections of poison oak don't usually help. .P.
