Rodeo
planned
We wish to announce
that plans are under
way for a rodeo in
Grand Ronde. The site will be the Grand
Ronde Pow-wow grounds the 4th weekend
in August (the weekend after our big Pow
wow). We have special volunteers, but we need
more. If you know of someone who is avail
able and willing to serve on a committee,
please call Susan Winters at 879-3704 or
Ed Larsen at 879-5360 or 879-2301. We
need people for ticket sales, advertising,
parking,1 clean-up; stock pens, and some
strong arms and backs to set up bleachers.
This will be an 8-event rodeo including:
bull riding, bareback riding, saddle bronco
riding, calf roping, steer wrestling, women
barrel riding, team roping, and wild horse
riding. We will keep you updated through
Smoke Signals.
Volunteers needed
Willamina Fire District is currently look
ing for potential Kurt RussellGeorge
Clooney types to fill positions as volunteer
Firefighters and Medics. Men and women
of 18 years or older are welcome to apply.
Training will be provided. Stop by or call
between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m.

state of Oregon.
The Grand Ronde
Tribe is among those companies which are placing a high emphasis on
workplace safety, and is part of the reason why SAIF can provide returns

Culture and Heritage
Society; logo contest

The Kwelth Tahlkie Culture and Heritage
Society would like to announce that we are
in need of your help! We need an artistic
tribal member to design our society's logo.
This logo will be used in the form of an of
ficial stamp, as an embosser and for our
business cards and letterhead. Please cre
ate the logo in the form of a circle and have
it represent our culture, heritage, our his
tory andor the importance of the preserva
tion of our past.
There will be a $ 100 prize for the artist of
the logo that is chosen. The deadline for
entries is July 19. The winner will be fea
tured in the August 1st issue of the Smoke
Signals. Please include with your entry:

the logo.
