Last General meeting centers around budget, nominations

The last General Council meeting (before annual elections) was held
on May 5. The discussion concerning the proposed Supplemental Bud
get began at 10:30 a.m., and lasted about two hours. The hearing was
set up as a comment period, in which tribal members could clarify their
opinions and ask questions concerning the proposed Supplemental Bud
get, which encompasses six benefit programs tribal members identi
fied as priorities through surveys and the community meetings held
last year. (The next edition of Smoke Signals will define these benefits
in greater detail.) In addition to discussion concerning the Supplemen
tal Budget, there were several other items on the agenda.
Cliff Adams, Natural Resources Division Manager, gave his pro
gram report on the status of the division. There are three new employ
ees: Kelly Docrkson is the new Fish and Wildlife Coordinator; Kathleen
Fcehan is the Environmental Specialist; and Pete Wakcland is the new
Forester.
Natural Resources is currently in the process of working with archi
tects on the design of the new Natural ResourcesForestry complex,
which will be located on Hebo Road.
