Tribal Youth may receive
scholastic honors
Achievement and Recognition Awards are spon
sored by the Grand Ronde Education Division, and
are for Grand Ronde tribal member youths. These
awards are given on the basis of merit not resi
dency, income, or financial need.
The program was established to identify and rec
ognize tribal youth attending grades 1-12, who are
excelling in academics and leadership roles. The
Tribe's intent is to foster self-esteem, encourage
continued academic achievement, personal involve
ment, as well as to continue to be a positive influ
ence in their communities.
Recognition may be granted for:
A variety of school honors such as Honor Roll,
Honorable Mention, Most Academically Improved,
Perfect Attendance, Most Improved Attendance,
or Student of the Month.
Exceptional performance in any academic field such
as science, mathematics, English, writing, or
speech.
Membership and participation in programs such
as National Honor Society or DECA.
Participation in community or school services such
as peer tutoring, Title VIX, JOM, student govern
ment, SMILE, Family MathFamily Science, Pow
wow activities, sports, clubs, working with elders
or the disabled.
Awards are made annually, at the end of the
school year. Application deadline is May 1. Each
application will be reviewed by a selection commit

Vocational and Employment
Training Fair was informational
On March 22 the Education Division held a Training Fair
in Grand Ronde. Participants included Spirit Mountain
Casino Dealer Training and Human Resources Department,
U.S. Navy, the JOB CORPS, Chemeketa Community Col
lege, West Coast Training, and Tribal Divisions of Natural
Resources, Education, Small Business and Vocational Rehabilitation.

1996 Trust Fund Scholarship
One-Eula Petite Scholarship: $5,000
Two-Graduate full-time: $5,000 (each)
Two-Undergraduate full-time: $4,000 (each)
Two-Adult Vocational Training full-time: $4,000 (each)
One-Graduate part-time: $2,500
Two-Undergraduate part-time: $2,000 (each)
One-Adult Vocational Training part-time: $2,000
Applicants must provide documentation of meeting criteria for scholarship category for which they are applying.
To be considered as First Priority for funding, Graduate and Undergraduate applicants must be pursuing degrees in
the following: Law, Education, Health Careers & Administration, Forestry, Natural Resource Management and Busi
ness Administration. Applicants not meeting a priority field of study will be reviewed on a secondary basis for
funding consideration. Recipients must sign a Scholarship Agreement regarding withdrawals, refunds, satisfactory
progress, changes in programs or emergencies. All recipients must sign a Statement Of Privacy.
Applications will be reviewed by a selection subcommittee and the Tribal Education Committee. Applications will
be judged on the following basis: Academic merit, leadership ability, priority field of study, timeliness and complete
ness. The Tribal Education Committee will approve scholarship recipients based on recommendations and review of
the selection subcommittee.
Applicants must be enrolled members of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde.
When applying for scholarships applicants must possess appropriate degrees and diplomas for the relevant scholar
ship. (For Graduate applicants, currently completing undergraduate degree requirements, proof of meeting gradua
tion requirements by June of the current academic year is necessary.)
Applicants must provide evidence of being accepted into an appropriate program relevant to as per the scholarship
for which they are applying, at an accredited institution. Letters of acceptance must be provided.
Applicants must submit all appropriate official copies of transcripts and test scores.
Applicants must be pursuing the degree on what is designated as appropriate for the scholarship they are applying.
Applicants must be pursuing a degree in a priority field of study to be considered as a first priority for funding.
Applicants will be awarded a scholarship based upon review and ranking. Should an applicant withdraw from
school, the next applicant in line will be awarded a Scholarship.
Recipients who fail to complete the termsemester or withdraw from school, may be required to repay the scholar
ship funds to the Tribe.
