Page 10 March 15, 1996 - SMOKE SIGNALS ONABEN Business Directory in the works The Oregon Native American Business and Entrepreneurial Network (ONABEN) is in phase one of a project aimed at net working Native American businesses. The Native American Business Direc tory will help connect Native businesses with one another and assist industries that wish to work specifically in the Native American community. ONABEN receives requests each month for assistance in locating minority-owned companies. Although the state provides several minority identification programs, a business must be registered with that pro gram to be listed. Few Native American businesses are registered with the state. There is no charge for Native American-owned businesses to be included in the business directory. To be listed, send a fact sheet to: ONABEN P.O. The Native American Student Union at the University of Oregon This will be the last school year with the current Long House. We expect ground-breaking for the New Long House to be this summer. NASU would like to invite all Natives to come to the final four potlucks of this school year. They are happening the last Sun day of each month at 5:30 p.m. at the Long House. Also, the Annual Spring Pow-wow will be May 11 and 12 in Gerlinger Hall, we will be commemorating the final days of the Long House. We would like all Natives who have at tended the University of Oregon to contact us regarding a closing cer emony for the Long House. Important Energy Assistance Information: The Polk County Energy Assistance Program has received additional monies for distribution to Polk County residents. If you fall within the income guidelines listed below, you may be eligible for Energy Assistance. The Tribal Family Action Program (TFAP) is currently taking names only and will contact all who call in before their appointment. Contact Pam Warren, secretary for TFAP and leave your name, phone number and mailing address. We will place your name on a list that will be faxed to the Polk County Energy Assistance Representative who will check to see if you've received in the past.
