Salute to December Volunteers!
The Wellness staff would like to thank the follow
ing volunteers for their time and dedication to tribal
activities. Without their help many of our events would
not be possible. In December the following people
helped to make our holiday season bright: Leroy Allen,
donated 4 weeks of time to prevention activities; Roger
Harrison, donated time and art work; Ken Martin, Chef
at Salishan Lodge made omelets at the elder brunch;
Diane Lane, decorating at events; Tammy Garrison,
cooking at elder events; Randy Leno, security; Clarice
and Elbert Ellison for bringing flowers and holly to
activities; Sonny Allen and David for helping at vari
ous events; I la Dowd for always being there for us;
Teri Holsclaw, Mary Brickell, Buddy Haskins, and
Molly Rimer for their weekend time to help with the
Christmas activities; and all of the staff who help with
special projects.
We cannot begin to express our appreciation to these
people and all others who volunteer throughout the
year. Without all of you the activities would not be
possible.
If anyone is interested in volunteering during 1996,
please call Bonnie Tom at 879-2016.
A special thank you is sent to Nanitch Sahallie em
ployee, Jon George for being a wonderful person. Jon
is always thoughtful and kind in caring for tribal el
ders, whether at home in Oregon or traveling to and
from conferences.
Health and Safety...
A Family Affair
Fill 1996 with healthy and safe days
for your whole family. Here are some
things that add up to a healthier, safer
lifestyle:
Strengthen family bonds by making
time to do enjoyable activities together.
Be sure all members of your family
.receive their immunizations, screenings,
and checkups on time.
Make sure everyone gets plenty of
physical activity each day and enough
sleep each night.
Encourage everyone in your family
to eat low-fat, high-fiber meals that in
clude plenty of whole grains, fresh fruits
and vegetables.
Give others the emotional support
they need by "being there" to listen and
share their disappointments as well as
their triumphs.
Teach everyone in the family how
to use the phone to call 9-1-1 (or your
area's emergency number) in case of an
emergency.
Serve as a role model by taking care
of your own health and safety and being
optimistic about life.
Remember: Even small lifestyle
changes can make a big difference for
everyone in your family.
