Casino job application process for tribal members General Council meeting,

iCTV The casino is always accepting applications for enrolled Grand Ronde tribal members. They keep
mf them on file permanently.
Tribal member applicants should notify Human Resources at the casino if they have a change of
status, address, phone number, or anything on their application form that changes. It is also very
helpful if you call to de-activate your application if you don't want to be considered at this time. The
casino encourages this you can always fill out a new one later if things change for you in the future.
Currently, Spirit Mountain Casino is mailing individual notices to all active tribal member appli
cants whenever there is an opening. Interested tribal members then contact the casino and ask for
consideration along with applicants already working at the casino.
Anyone who has been denied licensure from the Gaming Commission may not reapply until one
year has expired from the date of denial, unless the Gaming Commission has attached "without
prejudice" to the denial. If the Commission denies "with prejudice," the applicant may
not reapply.

Editor's Note: Mailing of the Smoke Signals
Recently, the Tribe has upgraded its mailing machine. This new computerized system promises to
be the most efficient and fastest method of mailing the Smoke Signals. However, it is common to
have a few program errors in a brand new system. If you are receiving your papers late, there could
be several reasons. Please call the Smoke Signals office, and we will try to work out the problem.
We mail out two issues a month, with deadlines on the 10th and 20th of each month. But please
note that the month of December had only one issue published - December 22, 1995.

Grand Ronde Community of Oregon. We have established an Editorial Policy to encourage

Casino's commercial was given an average rating, Bruce
said the billboard ads have been very successful.
John Mercier and Michael Larsen of the Public Works
Division delivered their program report next. Accomplish
ments in Public Works for 1995 included completing the
Master Site use Plan document, construction of the 500,000
gallon water tank, grants awarded by the Housing Program,
1 35 acres of land transferred into trust for the Tribe to use
and develop, and the agreement with Polk County Sheriffs
office to provide an additional deputy to patrol Grand
Ronde.
In 1996 the division plans to adopt a Housing Ordinance
and establish a Housing Authority, secure H.U.D. funds for
new housing, develop tribally-funded housing projects, re
model Nanitch Sahallie Youth Treatment Center, and be
gin construction of the new Natural Resources office com
plex as well as the Health and Wellness building. Public
Works will also make some improvements to the tribal cem
etery. Finally, Francis Somday, who has been CEO of the Tribe
since November, spoke about his first few weeks on the
job.
He said he plans to enhance communication between
Tribal Council and the division managers, and outlined three
overall strengths he believes the Tribe should strive for: a
strong tribal government, a solid reservation economy, and
a high standard of living for all tribal members.
The next General Council meeting will be held on Feb
ruary 4 at ll :30a.m.
Oregon Counties eligible for
USDA emergency farm loans
The Secretary of Agriculture, Dan Glickman has named
17 Oregon counties eligible for USDA emergency farm
loans because of losses due to severe frost and heavy rain
from April 15 to June 19, 1995.
Polk, Yamhill, Union, and Wasco counties were named
primary disaster areas on December 11. Also eligible be
cause they are contiguous to one or more of the primary
counties are Baker, Benton, Clackamas, Grant, Hood River,
Jefferson, Lincoln, Linn, Marion, Tillamook, Umatilla,
Wallowa, and Washington counties.
Farmers in all 17 counties have seven months to apply
for the loans to help cover part of their actual losses. To be
eligible, they must have suffered at least a 30 loss of nor
mal production of a single enterprise," be able to repay the
loan and any other loans, be unable to obtain credit else
where, have adequate security, and have multi-peril crop

directory to be mailed to every tribal house
hold. It's filled with important information
like program and committee descriptions,
employee names and telephone numbers, im
portant dates and events, Indian and gov
ernmental agencies, and other tribal happen
ings. Please look for it in your mail this
month.
