Page 7 L SMOKE SIGNALS October 15, 1995 Tribal member honored with National Award Clyde Stryker, President of Spirit Communications, Inc. and Grand Ronde tribal member, was honored at an awards dinner as Outstanding Minority Business on September 28, 1995 at the Red Lion Jantzen Beach awards luncheon. The honors were presented in association with National Minority Enterprise Development Week. Clyde was the only Native American recognized in the seven recipient field. We are all proud of you Clyde. New Indian Chamber of Commerce to meet The Oregon American Indian Chamber of Commerce has scheduled its next meeting on Thursday, October 26 at West One Bank, 401 SW 5th (corner of 5th and Stark), Mezzanine Conference Room in Portland. People interested in joining and helping get the chamber off the ground should attend. The OAICC's goal is to achieve economic growth and stability for Native American entrepreneurs. This will be achieved through: the promotion and support of quality oriented Native American-owned busi nesses and professionals; education and training of Native Ameri cans to compete effectively in the global economy; and providing high-quality benefits to its members. Possible classes include, basket weaving (hazelnut and pine needles) and wood carving. The planning is in the preliminary stages, but there have been a number of artists who have offered to teach their craft. Anyone interested in teaching a class or who has suggestions for a class, please contact Sam at 879-2487. 0Joe Smith, Director of the Gaming Commission, has invited local artists to have a mini-art show at the General Meeting of the Commission on Friday, October 20th. Subsistence Salmon Final Distribution The Fish & Wildlife Department will hold its final distribution on Saturday, October 21, 1995. The distribution will be open to ALL tribal members and will be on a first come, first-served basis. The hours of the distribution will be from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. or until all of the salmon is gone, which ever comes first. In order to pick up another tribal mem bers salmon, you must have that members Tribal I.D. card and a note from them. Community meeting held in Bend for tribal small business owners Staff of Small Business is traveling to Bend for a community meeting to be held at Central Oregon Community College on Monday, October 23 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Boyle Education Center Room 155. We invite all tribal members in the area to come in and meet the staff. POSITION : 95-47 CERTIFIED MEDICAL ASSISTANT SALARY: $1475 -1721 MO. (18 month position) DEPARTMENT: Health and Human Services REPORTS TO: Clinic Component Coordinator POSITIONS SUPERVISED: None CLOSING DATE: OCTOBER 30, 1995 OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs Medical Clinical duties primarily involved with the back office of the Tribal Medical Clinic engaging in medical evaluation and laboratory work of patients as directed by the provider. Completed documentation in the chart according to PSRO Standards of work is a necessity. SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES: Obtain a past medical history (medications, allergies, illnesses, injuries, operations), on all new patients. Perform and document immunization therapy. Obtain Vital Signs, weights, and chief complaints on all patients. Practice safety and care in preventing the spread of blood-borne pathogens. Educates and empowers the patient to accept responsibility in their healing. Performs laboratory procedures including blood draws, throat cultures, urine dispatch, blood glucose, culture of wounds, and EKG's. Completes the necessary paperwork when sending specimens to outside laboratories. Assists care provider with breast examinations, Pap tests, rectal examinations (hematest), suturing, and other minor surgical procedures (Lipoma removal), and broncho dilator nebulizer treatments of asthmatics. Monitor all medical supplies and re-order when necessary. Ensure medical equipment safety function. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: High School diploma or equivalent and Certified Medical Assistant Certificate with two years experience as a Medical Assistant. KNOWLEDGE OF: IHS operation, including Contract Health requirements and ICD-9 cm diagnostic codes for outpatients. Knowledge of medical clinic operations, basic medical terminology and basic first aid. ABILITY TO: Work as a team member and care for patients in a professional manner. Insure privacy and confidentiality of patients. Appreciate Indian customs and traditions. SKILL IN: Blood draws. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: High school graduation or equivalency, or any combination of experience and training which demonstrates the knowledge, skill and ability to perform the above described duties. KNOWLEDGE OF: Rules of effective English usage and grammar; different filing systems; business telephone etiquette. ABILITY TO: Deal courteously and tactfully with the public; deal effectively with frequent interruptions; organize and file information; maintain confidentiality; maintain effective working relationships with the public and other employees; follow verbal and written instructions. POSITION : 95-44 FORESTER (TIMBER SALES) STARTING SALARY RANGE: $1857 - 2354 MO. (exempt) DEPARTMENTDIVISION: Natural Resources REPORTS TO: Logging and Transportation Coordinator POSITIONS SUPERVISED: NONE CLOSING DATE EXTENDED TO: NOVEMBER 13, 1995 OVERALL RESPONSIBILITIES: Performs technical and skilled forestry work with an emphasis on timber sale and salvage sale preparation and administration. Assists with road maintenance plans administration. EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: An incumbent must have at least a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Forest Management or Forest Engineering. Plus a minimum of six months experience. KNOWLEDGE OF: West-side silvaculture practices; basic road design and layout techniques and procedures; skyline logging systems; basic firefighting methods and safety practices; timber appraisal; basic surveying principles. ABILITY TO: A candidate for this position must be able to work effectively in steep terrain often in adverse weather conditions. Communicate tactfully, both in writing and orally, with supervisors, co-workers, and others. Make accurate mathematical calculations using algebra and trigonometry. SKILL IN: Preparing technical documents using computers for word processing and preparing special exhibits, such as maps. NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: 1. Must pass the National Wildfire Coordinating Group national fitness test for arduous work level. Incumbent may choose either the step test or mile and one half run. Passing scores are: step test 45; mile and one half run under 1 1 minutes, 40 seconds. 2. Have a valid Oregon Drivers license or be able to obtain one within 30 days. 3.
