Public Works contracts awarded Painting: Public Works recently awarded John Rice Painting, of Salem, the contract for painting the Training Modular. The solicitation for licensed, insured contractors was placed in the Smoke Signals and three bids were received as follows: Denny Olson - $6,360; Todd's Paint ing $6,000; and John Rice Painting - $4,920. Weather permitting, the job should take about ten days to complete. Paving: Grader Services, of Willamina, has been awarded the pav ing contract for the Training Modular parking lot. Public Work's adver tisement brought in three competitive bids: Cascade Paving - $46,900; River City Paving - $39,025; and Grader Services - $37,500. The fin ished lot will provide parking spaces for over seventy vehicles. 4 xli I l'i ,44 ? . fef WEDDING BELLS: Mychal Childers and Chris Leno, both tribal members, were married July 8 in Salem. Both are employed by the Tribe and will reside in Grand Ronde. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Leno. Craft class update The last craft class will be held on August 14 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Currently, craft class is every Monday evening at the commu nity center. Craft class will re sume in January. If you have begun projects, please come and finish them. All unfinished projects that are un claimed will be taken apart and used as future supplies. Special craft class offered on August 26 On Saturday, August 26 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Commu nity Center, a special glass bead making class will be offered. Each participant will need to bring their own small, camp-size pro pane tank with nozzle. Other sup plies will be provided for tribal members. Non-tribal members w i 1 1 need to pay a $ 1 2 fee for glass supplies or bring their own. Class size is limited. Please call Cam ille at 879-2901 to reserve your space. Pow-wow dance class Dance class is held every Thurs day from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the community center. The last class will be held on August 10. Please join us. Everyone is welcome to participate. Small children must be accompanied by an adult. USDA Update: The USDA Program is now distributing frozen ground beef. Deliveries are made monthly to the warehouse to assure that the beef is fresh. If you are choosing the frozen ground beef, please be sure to bring your own coolers. This will help to insure that the beef will stay frozen until you reach home, especially with the sum mer weather. Siletz Tribal Elders visit Senior Mealsite 23, rh If On July 20, 1995 the Siletz Tribal Elders spent the afternoon at the Grand Ronde Senior Mealsite. All of the 69 participants enjoyed lunch together, held a joke contest, and played bingo. The Healing Spirit Youth Drum sang for the elders as they arrived for lunch. Kathryn Harrison welcomed the elders and gave out gifts from the Tribal Council. Ila Dowd gave the Lord's Prayer in Chinook Jargon. Special thanks to everyone that helped make the day a memorable event; Curt Hubbel, for taking the time to do a special cut of ribs for the meal; Kathy Tom, for baking the rolls; Merle Leno, for calling bingo; Clarice and Elbert Ellison, for donating fresh flowers; and volunteers Molly Rimer, Jerry Brandon, Shelley Hanson, Penny DeLoe, Cindy Martin-Butler, Sam Henny, Elaine Smith, Sheryl Jewell; and the Senior Mealsite Cooks. Salmon Distribution CORRECTION NOTICE: In the July IS issue of Smoke Signals we published the Au gust distribution dates incor rectly. Please make note of the correct dates listed below, and change your calendar. The Fish & Wildlife Depart ment will be distributing salmon to enrolled tribal mem bers on the dates listed below. You must present your Tribal ID card in order to pick up fish. If you are picking up fish for another tribal member you must have that persons Tribal ID card and a note giving you permission to do so. Due to problems in the past, these rules will be strictly enforced. For further information call Karen Larsen at 879-2376. Alex's great-grandmother is Opal Mercier Davidson. Grand parents are Harry and Kathy Davidson of Yamhill and Bob and Lorena Bliven of Bend, Oregon.
