Congresswoman Furse, a supporter of Indian Tribes, and a longtime friend of the Grand Ronde Tribe, was an instru mental figure in the Grand Ronde tribal restoration effort. Tribal Council members who attended the luncheon were Kathryn Harrison and Mark Mercier. Special guest speakers included con gresswomen from all over the United States. They were: Cynthia McKinney (GA), Eva Clayton (NC), and Pat Schroeder (CO). Report from Spirit Mountain Spirit Mountain Development Corpo ration has made two more additions to its management team. Dave Harjo has assumed the position of Vice-President of Development. Dave will spearhead development opportunities for the corporation. Dave comes to Spirit Mountain from Little Six, Inc., the par ent company of the Mystic Lake Casino in Minnesota. As Vice-President of Con sulting Services for Little Six, Dave worked with Spirit Mountain as a con sultant in developing the Casino. His other experiences include work with the Summit Hotel Management Group in Boca Raton, Florida and the Gaming Commission for the Muscogee (Creek) Nation. Shancy Saban will take over as Of fice Manager for the Spirit Mountain De velopment Corporation. Shancy also brings valuable experience from Little Six, where she worked as Manager of InformationInventory Control. She has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Information Management from St. Catherine College in St. Paul, Minnesota and an Associate of Arts degree in Business from the Uni versity of Wisconsin. Shancy was named Rookie of the Year by ARM A Interna tional (an organization for information management professionals) in 1991. Shancy originally hails from Wyoming. Highway Update: The highway un derpass financed by Spirit Mountain is nearing completion. Construction offi cials anticipate ending the current detour and re-opening Highway 18 in front of the Casino by the end of this month. When the Casino opens this fall, the high way underpass will eliminate left hand turns to and from the Spirit Mountain development and the Strawberry Patch, thus alleviating traffic congestion and making the highway safer.
