Education Division holds Honor Dinner for grads

On June 16, the Education Division sponsored
an Honor Dinner for tribal students who have
graduated from middle school, high school, and
college. The dinner was also held for students
receiving scholarship awards, achievements and
recognition for an outstanding school year.
The dinner was held at the Community Center
and facilitated by Dean Azule, Marion Mercier,
Shawn Hostler, and Darlene Aaron, of the Edu
cation Committee.
Those students graduating from a college or
an adult vocational training program received
eagle feathers and Pendleton blankets. They
were: Lisa Leno, Dana Leno, Chad Stryker, De
light Satter, Pete Wakeland, and Rose Marie
Dilling.
The keynote speaker for the evening was Jackie
Grant.

After School Club members graduate for summer Summer Camp to begin this month

Division recently held an After
School Club graduation at the
Community Center for the stu
dents who attended club gather
ings this past year.
Awards were given for out
standing attendance, creativity,
and working well with others.
The award ceremony was fol
lowed by a pinata party. All the
kids had a chance to take a swing
at a candy-filled pinata shaped
like a giant soccer ball.

Summer ABEGED classes offered
Put some class in your summer plans, join our ABEGED classes. Classes
will be held from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays (June 20 through
July 27, with the exception of July 4). Chemeketa Community College is spon
soring these classes and they are free of charge to any community member
working towards a GED.
All classes will be held at the new training center, located behind Spirit Moun
tain offices, at 28840 Salmon Highway in Grand Ronde. Instructor is June
Jetton. For more information, please contact Gayla Tulensru, Tribal Adult
Education Coordinator, at 879-2282.
The Education Division will be offering a summer camp this year to three
age groups. Plan on signing your children up. Parents will need to provide
transportation to and from the program.
Preschool program for 3 years to Kindergarten: July 17-21. Classes and
activities will be held from 8 a.m. until noon. July 20 will be a field trip and
July 21 will be a graduation luncheon presentation. Enrollment is limited to 20
children. Parents are encouraged to attend with their children.
Students going into 1st through 5th grade: July 24-28. Classes and ac
tivities will be held from 8 a.m. until noon. July 27 will be a field trip and July
28 will be a graduation luncheon presentation. Enrollment is limited to 25
children. Parents are strongly encouraged to participate.
Students going into 6th through 8th grade: August 14-16. This will be a
retreat in Lincoln City at Gleneden Beach. The theme will be environmental
education. Applications were sent out in June for this camp. The first 14
applicants will be selected to participate.
Applications for these camps and summer activities for 9-12 graders will be
included in the June mail out.
Registration Procedures: Applicant must be a tribal member. Applications
should be in 2 weeks prior to your camp. Pre-enrollment is required. Early
registration is best in order to insure you have a place.
No "walk-ins" on the opening day, please. We want to be ready for your
children.
The application and health form must be signed by the camper and the par
entlegal guardian.
