Jim Willis, continued from page 2
part of our everyday lives, and his
friendship has been deeply appreciated.
For me personally, it won't feel the
same for a while, not having his big
smile and quick wit around every day.
We all owe him a debt of gratitude for
his dedication, good humor and will
ingness to serve. Thankfully, Jim has
assured us that he will continue to be
available for issues the Council feels
he can make a contribution to.

the Tribe. We are faced with some

Jim has given the Tribal Council ample

necessary in the organization to meet

many involved Tribal members, and a
solid Tribal Council. It is an impor
tant time to pull together, do our best
creative thinking, and be deliberate and
smart in what we do. We've got a lot
of important work to do.. .so let's get
on with it!
Women's wellness conference
On April 12, the Healing Spirit Youth Drum Group attended the
Women's Wellness Conference in Portland at the Jantzen Beach Red Lion
Inn. There was a good turnout for the evening Pow-wow, held from 7 to
1 1 p.m. Those attending the conference were impressed with the Con
federated Tribes of Grand Ronde youth for their involvement in a drug
and alcohol-free message and activity.
Those tribal youth attending were Josh and David Holmes, Sam and
Sol George, Elvin Butler Jr., Anthony Henry, and Levi Leibelt. Chaper
ones included Jackie Provost and Big Elvin Butler. Others tending the
drum were Eddie Big Boy and the Britz family.
As the Pow-wow season opens for this year, a lot of requests for the
youth drum to attend their functions and pow-wows have occurred. We
all know it can be overwhelming at times, so we schedule only those
functions which are reasonable for staff to attend. The youth would like
to go every weekend, and we would need other tribal members involve
ment for this to happen.
We thank all those involved directly and indirectly for their support
and encouragement of the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde Tribal
Youth.
Spiritual Encampment needs planning
The Spiritual Encampment Committee would like more turnout and
input from interested individuals and tribal members to help support the
different committees such as food, security, activities, and general help.
Our meeting schedule has been set for every Monday from 12:30 to
1 :30 p.m. at the Alcohol and Drug building. Please attend when conve
nient to help support this important function.
