Community Health Clinic survey in the mail
The Human Services Division is requesting your assis
tance in completing and returning a survey on the new
Tribal Community Health Clinic.
,The survey will be mailed July 1 with a requested return
date of July 15. Your responses to this survey will help
guide and plan for the services that will be provided by the
clinic.

Wellness and prevention
Wellness Powwow activities announced
The Aug, 20 annual Wellness and Prevention Powwow
activities registration is underway.
Organizers said that they plan to have excellent atten
dance and plenty of fun.
Activities include the Spirit Mountain 7th Fun Run and
Walk for Health, a coed Softball tournament and a coed
volleyball tournament.

volleyball tournament are on this page. To register for the

Diabetic Support Group meeting dated
A special group meeting will be held from 1: 15 to 2:30
p.m. July 8 at the Wellness Modular for people with
diabetes, family and friends of diabetics, and anyone
interested in learning more about the disease.
The Wellness Modular is located between the Commu
nity Center and the Health Modular.
The group's focus is to share information, experience
and knowledge of diabetes and to support group members.
The meeting will have an open agenda and if questions
can't be answered immediately, the answers will be
obtained from medical personnel.

Kids wanted for Drama Club
Young people, age five to 18, are being urged to sign up
for the Drama Club.
The Drama Club meetings will be held from 3:30 to 5
p.m. every Monday and Friday, starting July 8, at the
health building.
Organizers Tracy Biery, Duane ManyHides and Vernon
Kennedy say the young folks will learn some great
prevention plays that will include honesty, gratitude,
courage, dependability and much more.
Participants will learn how to may their own props for
the productions.
The organizers said, If you are interest in being a part
of the great club, have your parents fill out the Prevention
Activity health form and return it to: The Drama Club,
Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, 961 5 Grand Ronde
Road, Grand Ronde OR 97346.

Let's talk teeth...

Does the AIDS and hepatitis scare have you down in the
mouth?
Have you avoided making a dental appointment because of
the fear associated with contracting AIDS or hepatitis?
Universal precautions means that we treat every patient as
if they were infected with the AIDS virus or any other
infection disease.
These infection control procedures include:
- Use of gloves, masks and protective eye wear.
- Washing hands before and after each treatment, and
changing gloves after each patient.
- Sterilization of dental instruments after each use (we use
the steam autoclave).
- Cleaning and disinfecting the surfaces in the treatment
room, and equipment after each use.
- Use disposal items whenever possible - gloves, masks,
suction tips, air-water tips.
drug abuse in families
- Educate yourself about drug abuse.
- Know the early warning signs of addiction.
- Don't give your child sarcasm and criticism.
- Give your child affection.
- Develop strong family ties.
- Know where your child is and with whom.
- Keep in close touch with other parents.
- Encourage your child to express his or her hurts and
opinions.
- Never say "drug abuse can't happen to my family."
- Make your child feel important.
- Listen to your child.
- Learn the resources in your community that can help
you fight drug abuse.
- Set an example yourself.
- Give your child faith in God.
- Don't blame yourself for drug use.
Exempt status easy
Tribal health care specialists said the if you would like to
have the exempt status, it is very easy.
All you have to do is call your case worker at the Adult
and Family Services office - the phone number is on your
medical card. Tell the case worker that you are Native
American and you want to disenroll from the current plan
and be exempt from managed care.
The case worker will want proof of your Native Ameri
can descent.
Your enrollment card, a CIB, a letter from Margo, or your
eligibility letter you received from Community Health
Services.
Your open medical card will then become effective the
first of the following month from the day you called to get
the information from Adult and Family Services.
Foster parents needed
Indian homes for Indian children
The Tribal Foster Care Program is accepting
applications for foster parents to provide a warm,
loving, stable environment for displaced tribal
children. If you are interested, please contact John
Fraser, Foster Care Coordinator, at the Tribal Family
Action Program: extension 2039.
