Guidelines for Jr. & Sr.
Miss Grand Ronde
It's almost time to select a Royalty Court for the coming year. If you
would like an application, please contact Debby at 879-2476 or Camille
at 879-2901. The following are the guidelines for the candidates:
1. Applicants must be single, childless, and never married. If you
becomepregnant, you will immediatelyforfeit any title, prizes, and crown
you receive. :,-
2. Applicants must be an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes
of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon.
3. Junior age category: 1 1-14 years old
4. Senior age category: 15-19 years old
5. If school age, you must be attending public or private school full-time.
6. All contestants are expected by their conduct, to represent the Tribe,
their family, and themselves with integrity and gracious spirit at all times.
7. Contestants must attend all required events such as pow-wows,
parades, fund-raisers, organizational meetings, and others. Excused
absences may be pre-arranged with the Royalty Committee. If you miss
three unexcused required events, you will be disqualified from the court.
8. Participants must be drug and alcohol free. Any misconduct will
result in the immediate disqualification from the court.
9. Contestants must be willing to speak in front of groups of people. The
Royalty Committee will provide coaching.
, 10. Contestants must be fully dedicated and prepared to represent the
? Tribe in a positive way. -.,-.
11. Participantsmust show good judgement by not participating in any
activities that would bring adverse publicity to the Tribe while you are a
member of Royalty Court.
1 2. Contesants must be willing to dance. You will be expected to attend
dance classes that are offered by the Tribe.
13. Participants need to make at least one article of their regalia. Craft
classes are offered free of charge by the Pow-wow Committee. All girls
are encouraged to attend.
14. Contestants must have knowledge of tribal history. The Committee
will help you with this.
15. You must have a chaperone to represent you. This can be a parent
or anyone willing to share responsibilities.
16. Failure to meet the requirements may result in disqualification from
the Royalty Court.
17. Other reguired duties as assigned.
HONORARY COURT RESPONSIBILITIES
As a member of the Grand Ronde Honorary Court, participants will be
notified and invited to participate in upcoming events like pow-wows,
parades, etc. Contestants will be representing themselves, their family
and the Tribe. Participants will be expected to follow the guidelines
below:
1. An enrolled member of the Grand Ronde Tribe.
2. 6-10 years of age.
3. Show respect to elders, including parents.
4. Listen and follow instructions.
5. Try to do your best at all times.
6. Willingness to actively participate in tribal functions as a member of
Honorary Court.
7. Conduct themselves to show their best behavior.
9. Have appropriate regalia for all events.
10. Willingness to learn about our culture.
GUIDELINES FOR PARENTSSPONSORS
1. Willingnessto work with theRoyalty Court memberyou are sponsoring.
2. Willingness to work with the Royalty Committee on fund-raisers and
other functions.
3. Be responsible for the Royalty Court member during functions.
4. Help Royalty Court member learn correct Royalty, pow-wow, and
tribal protocol.
The Royalty Committee encourages young women to apply and join in
an opportunity to represent the Tribe.

MARY ALICE DURAN
I am a member of the Jicarilla
Apache tribe and am now working
for Grand Ronde as an
administrative specialist working
for the the Health and Human
Services Division of the Tribe.
I formerly worked for an Indian
health facility in all phases of
health care. Because of my
experience in working for an
Indian health care facility in an
administrative setting, I have been
able to adapt to my position here
quite well.
One of the projects I will be
working on is JCAHO (Joint
Commission on Accreditation of
Health Care Organizations)
as well as addressing Quality
Assurance issues to insure our
patients and clients the best of
service. I look forward to meeting
tribal members and working with
the staff here at the Grand Ronde
Tribe.

JACKIE PROVOST
I am an enrolled member of the
Grand Ronde Tribe and have
recently started work as a Contract
Health Specialist in the tribal clinic.
I have two daughters; Camille
Mercier and Molly Rimer.
I enjoy the work I do and getting
to know tribal members. Before
working for the Tribe I was
employed by Chemawa IHS, first
as a receptionist, and then as a
medical records technician.
I enjoy traditional activities such
as dancing, drumming, making
regalia, and bead sewing.

ARTIFACTS FEATURED: On May 12 there will be an open house at the Tillamook
Museum in Tillamook, Oregon which will feature Native American exhibits from several
Oregon tribes. The Grand Ronde tribe received donations from tribal members for display
at the museum. The open house will feature music from Shantee Klootchman Turn Turn
drum group and information aboutthe artifacts on display. Tribal members are encouraged
to attend. For more information please contact Tammy Cook at the tribal offices. The
artifacts will be on display for several weeks.
