ELDERS' CORNER
Spotlight On Pauline Johnson
Pauline Cora Johnson is the tribal oldest elder who has ties to Grand Ronde. She
was born April 9, 1905 to John and Cecile Warren.
She and her first husband, Elmer Tom, have one daughter, Cordelia Allen
Kneeland. Pauline later married Orin Johnson. She has several grandchildren and great
grandchildren. Pauline is known as an outspoken and respected elder in the Tribe. Although she
must spend most of her time in a wheelchair, she continues with the things in life that have
always given her pleasure. She is famous for her homemade pies, bread, and cookies, and
also crochets bags, belts, and other items all of which she sells as fast as she can make them.
We all want to wish Pauline a wonderful and exciting birthday this year!
The Elders' Committee is looking trying to contact tribal elders who are on the rolls,
but have no known address. If you know the location of any of the following people, please
contact the Tribe.

Want My GED Yesterday!
t
By Gayla Tulensru
There seems to be a slight misunderstanding about what is involved for a person
who is working toward their GED. The idea seems to be that if someone quits school, they
can almost immediately get their GED. Some people can, some can't Most people will have
to work to earn their GED diploma.
Earning a GED is not easier than completing high school. The tests are set up so
that only 70 of graduating high school seniors would pass. This means that a person
wanting hisher GED is going to have to study for it The skills which are taught in twelve
years of school are the same skills needed in order to pass the GED test
One out of six people with high school diplomas got them by passing the GED test
Those people should be very proud of their achievements. They have worked hard, and
reached a goal.
Few really important goals are accomplished without a constant effort People
really expect to pay for their house or new car immediately, but make payments over a period
of years. Getting your GED is the same process lots of steps, until you finally, reach your
goal: a diploma!
