Smoke Signals August 1993 Page 6 1993 HUNTING & TAG INFORMATION The FishWildlife department will be issuing 345 deer, 44 elk, and 4 bear tags to eligible tribal members for the 1993 hunting season. The following guidelines have been adopted by the Fish & Wildlife Committee to give as many tribal members as possible the opportunity to use their hunting privileges. Please remember that you must follow the state hunting laws, seasons, and bag limits. Tags issued by the Tribe are only valid in the Trask Management Unit (consult your Hunting, Fishing, and Gathering Handbook for the description). The Tribal Handbook is currently being revised. There's been only one major change in this year's guidelines, (the ordinance changes adopted by Tribal Council, see page 4). If you have any questions please contact Karen Lord at 1-800422-0232. DEER TAGS Five deer tags will be reserved for cultural gatherings, and the remainder (general, muzzleloader, and bow) will be issued to individual tribal members on a first come, first serve basis as long as the supply lasts. Tribal members may have only one tag in their possession at all times. The status of all deer tags must be reported within 72 hours of the end of each season, or within one working day of a successfully filled tag in order for the hunter to be issued any additional tags. If you received a bow or muzzleloader deer tag, and wish to use it in the general deer hunt, you must notify Fish Wildlife that you want to transfer from muzzleloader or bow to general deer. BOW ELK Those interested in the bow elk hunt may also submit an application for a general andor a controldamage elk hunt. If your name is drawn for a bow tag it will disqualify any application submitted to the general or controldamage drawings. Bow elk tag winners will not be eligible for a first, second, or controldamage elk tag. GENERAL ELK One elk tag will be reserved for cultural gatherings, the remaining elk tags shall be issued to interested, licensed tribal members who register for a public drawing to be held on August 10, 1993-5:30 P.M. at the Community Center. Interested tribal members will be eligible for one elk tag per year. Subsistence Salmon To anyone who did not receive their salmon this year, the FishWildlife Department will be having a second distribution. The week of August 19-20 (Pow-wow week) during the hours of 10:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M. you may pick it up. If you are unable to make it during these times please feel free to call and make other arrangements. The number is 879-5522. Once again, salmon will be distributed on first come, first serve basis. No Salmon will be given without the proper notification (note or phone call). Also available are cured salmon eggs and fish heads. Members must select their preference for the first or second season elk hunt. The preference must be circled on the application form. If no preference is selected or both circled, the application will be invalid. CONTROLDAMAGE ELK Bow, first and second season hunt tag applicants may also apply for the controldamage hunt of their choice. The preference must be entered on the application form. If no preference is entered, the application will be invalid. The number of tags available will depend on hunt conditions within the Trask Unit.
