Education Directors, Parent Committee representatives, JOM Staff, Higher Education, Adult Vocational Training and Adult Education Program representatives attend this year's convention. The TECA Convention was held in Clackamas, Oregon at the Monarch Hotel and was hosted by the nine Oregon Tribes. Highlighting this year's convention was Mr. Bob Arnold, Senate Committee on Indian Affairs, Garry Martin, BIA Central Office, Higher Education, Rodney Grant, celebrity and speaker, and Gerry Raining Bird, Interface Network. Special efforts were taken to include sessions dealing with parent and student involvement. JOM students from around the state participated in this year's activities. Special keynote speakers included: Kanie St. Paul, NW Indian College, Floy Pepper, Educator and Consultant, Clayton Small, Resource and Evaluation Center, Mark Mercier, Chairman of the Grand Ronde Tribe. The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde was well-represented at TECA. In attendance were representatives from the Tribal Education Committee, Tribal Council, and Education Program staff. The 1994 conference will be held in Montana, and hosted by the Salish-Kootenai Tribe and College. Performs a variety of technical and administrative tasks m implementing Tribal Higher Education, Adult Vocational Training and Education Trust Fund Scholarship programs. Works with community colleges, four year colleges and university programs in developing post-secondary services for members. Works with tribal Education Committee in developing educational foundations for future services and activities. Develops educational reports for Tribal Council and appropriate funding agencies. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: B.S.B.A. degree and three years experience working in an educational setting with program administration responsibilities. Knowledge of financial aid application process. Familiarity with post secondary programs pertaining to community colleges, four year colleges, and universities. Awareness of college recruitment and placement process, Awareness of available scholarship, resources, and grant programs for students. Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing; coordinate and administer program services to meet overall objectives; identify funding resources and scholarship programs; work toward resolving problems that may arise between students and higher educational institutions; maintain effective working relationship between schools, tribal programs, and educational agencies. Possession or ability to obtain valid Oregon Driver's Licence. OTHER DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS Bachelor's degree in Education and a combination of skills and abilities in working with post secondary programs. Familiarity in working with programs governed by federal regulations and contract process. Familiarity in working with tribal communities and Native American Programs as they pertain to higher education. TribalIndian preference applies.
