STUDENT: JOE SIMI
SCHOOL: West Coast Training
MAJOR: Heavy Equipment Operation
DEGREE: Diploma of Completion and Licence
In an effort to overcome problems due to lack of
employment in the timber industry, Mr. JOE SIMI took
steps to seek re-training. He participated in the state of
Oregon's "Dislocated Worker" program and the tribe's
Adult Vocational Training Program. Mr. Simi enrolled
in West Coast Training and enrolled in the school's
eight week Heavy Equipment Operation Program.
On March 20, 1992, Mr. Simi received his diploma for
the Basic Survey, Heavy Equipment Operation
Program. "At times the work and classes were a little
difficult, but I enjoyed to program and was able to finish
on schedule", Joe stated. Mr. Simi is currently working,
and thanked the tribe for all the assistance provided.

UNDERGRADUATES
BRIAN MERCIER
Mr. Mercier graduated from NORTH SALEM HIGH
SCHOOL, June, 1992. While attending North, he
maintained a 3.33 GPA in an accelerated academic
program. He plans to attend the University of Oregon
during the 1992-93 school year, and will
major in Secondary Education, Mathematics.
Bryan receives $3000.00 tribal Education Trust Fund
Scholarship, based on academics and leadership. Bryan
also received an Achievement and Recognition Award
for outstanding high school students from the tribe's
Education Scholarship Program.

Bryan Mercier
SHELBY OLSON
Ms. Olson enrolled in Chemeketa Community College
in 1991-92 in a transfer program. Shelby, on her
application, indicated she wants to work with hearing
impaired children in teaching. Shelby has earned a 3.60
GPA while attending CCC. She plans to attend
Chemeketa during the 1992-93 school year and transfer
to Western Oregon State College. She hopes to major
in Elementary Education, Handicapped and Special
Education.
Shelby will receive a $3000.00 tribal Education Trust
Fund Scholarship.
PATRICK GALLIC HER
Mr. Galligher graduated in June, 1992 from JESUIT
HIGH SCHOOL. He received praise from teachers,

councilors, and coaches for his hard work and
community involvement Patrick maintained a 3.16
GPA at Jesuit Patrick plans to attend Willamette
University in the 1992-1993 school year. He will major
in Business Administration, with a minor in Marketing
Science. Patrick receives $3000.00 in tribal Education
Trust Fund Scholarship. Mr. Galligher also received
an Achievement & Recognition Award for his
outstanding academics and leadership. In April 1992,
Patrick received an Oregon Indian Education
Association academic scholarship.

Patrick Galligher
APRIL FINNEY
In June, 1992, Ms. Finney graduated from PATEROS
HIGH SCHOOL in Pateros, Washington. She "
maintained a 3.53 GPA and was involved in student
government. April received much praise and support
from her teachers, councilors, and principal, for her
involvement and hard work. Ms. Finney plans to attend
Wenatchee Valley College in the Fall, where she will
major in Hotel and Hospitality Management.
April receives $3000.00 from the tribal Education Trust
Fund Scholarship.
MELANIE DUGGAN
Ms. Duggan graduated from NORTH CLACKAMAS
CHRISTAIN HIGH SCHOOL in June, 1992. She
earned a 3.51 GPA and during her senior year
maintained a 4.00 GPA. Melanie has her goals set on
earning a nursing degree from Linfield College. She
also hopes to continue her education for an eventual
Master's degree. Melanie will receive $3000.00 in an
Education Trust Fund Scholarship.

Ms. Seidel earned her Bachelor of Science degree in
1990 from the University of Oregon. She has been
accepted into the SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, University
of Kansas for the 1992-1993 school year. Kristi's goal is
to become a medical doctor .She feels strongly about the
health needs of Native Americans and hopes to make a
contribution. Kristi is awarded $5000.00 from tribal
Education Trust Fund Scholarship program for her
graduate studies.
ANDREW JENNESS
Mr. Jenness graduated from the University of Oregon b
1990 where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in
Psychology d Business Administration. Andrew has
been accepted into the University of Oregon's School of
Law for the 1992-93 school year. He plans on earning a
degree in Law and also seeks to complete a Master's
degree in Business Administration. Andrew received a
$5000.00 award from the tribal Education Trust Fund
Scholarship program.
RECOGNITION &
ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS
TROY FLORES
The Class of 1992 as well as our tribe can be proud of
Troy. Troy has overcome learning disabilities to
graduate with an accumulative GPA of 3.7 from Robert
E. Lee high School in Baytown, Texas. His awards and
activities have been: honor roll, cheerleader, varsity
letter in football, soccer, swim team, senior planning
committee, and "All School Favorite" to name a few.
Troy was chosen by his peers in the Students Against
Driving Drunk Club to be peer model to campaign
against driving under the influence of alcohol. Troy
plans to pursue a degree in dentistry. .
RENAE DOUGLASS
Renae is a member of the Class of 1992. She graduated
from Gresham High School as a member of the honor
roll. Her other honors include French Honor Society,
and Student of the Month-English. Renae participated
in track, cheerleading, and she was a candystriper.
Renae will be attending Oregon State University where
she will pursue a degree in Business.
CHRIS MERCIER
Well done! Chris is an "excellent student" at North
Salem High School with a GPA of about 3.6. He is
considered conscientious, dependable, hardworking,
friendly, and willing to stand up for what he believes.
Chris was selected as the French student, of the month
and he is on the reader's panel of the Salem Statesmen
etter in football, soccer, swim team, senior planning
LORI GREENBERG
Lori has earned a music achievement award for solo and
ensemble and has competed in several competitions.
She plays basketball and participates in 4-H activities.
She has proven herself as an "outstanding student, very
hard worker, a person of integrity and one who has the
respect and admiration of her peers". Lori would like to
major in English and Music and pursue a teaching
degree.
