EUGENE LABONTE
My name is Gene LaBonte. My parents were the late
Alexander Gus LaBonte and Edna K. LaBonte. I was
born and raised around Grand Ronde, and attended
school at the old Cloverleaf Grade School.
I am not going to make a lot of promises which I may
not be able to keep. But I will promise that if I am
elected to Tribal Council, I will represent all tribal
members to the best of my ability.
I am presently with the Timber Committee and have
been since it was organized in 1988.
My business expertise is in the automotive and trucking
field. I have been around the timber industry almost all
my life. In the trucking business I hauled logs, the
finished product, and general freight. In the auto motive
field I had two body and fender shops in the Eugene and
Springfield area.

Hi, I want to take this opportunity to thank John
Mercier for nominating me for Tribal Council. My
name is Ed larsen, and I have lived in Grand Ronde for
over 45 years. I want to share a few ideas with you.
1. I think we need to get together as one instead of
fighting amongst ourselves.

2. 1 would like to get a youth center going.
3. 1 would like to help bring in some business for the
tribe. I have been in business with my wife Shirley for
nine years. This practical experience along with
graduating from ONABEN business class will be helpful
in council. I think we need more business-minded
people, when we are faced with making big money
decisions.
4. 1 have an idea to increase the Eula Petite Scholarship
Fund.

In closing, I would like to tell everyone to try not to
think "What is the tribe doing to help me?" Instead, ask
yourself, "What can I do to help the tribe?"

REYNOLD LENO
My name is Reynold Leno, son of Orville and Ramona
Leno. I have lived in Grand Ronde are all of my life,
except for the time I served in the Marine Corps. I am
currently a member of the Timber Committee, Tribal
Veteran's Group, and the Community Council. As a
person running for Tribal Council, I really cannot make
a lot of promises as a single person. I believe it takes
more than one person to make a difference. I do,
however, have a lot of interest in the future of our tribe,
and where it is going. I believe as a council member,
you should make decisions that are fair and equal to all
tribal members and stand behind them. Although I am
interested in the tribe as a whole, I do have some
priority issues.
Since I have children of my own, I am interested in
education, since education is the key to the future of our
tribe. By making education a priority issue, it helps to
ensure a good future for Indian people individually, as
well as a good future for the tribe as a whole.
Another major interest of mine is the need for medical
assistance for the elders. The management of our
timber grounds is another concern of mine. Since one
of our major sources of income is from timber, I pay
particular attention to that issue.
If elected to council, I will be there to serve and listen to
all the tribal members. I would appreciate your vote in .
the upcoming election.

ROBERT MERCIER
My name is Bob Mercier, I have been a member of the
the GrandRonde Tribal Council for the past three years.
I would like to say thank you to everone who has
supported me during this time. These three years have
been a true learning experience for me, and I hope to
" continue sharing and gaining knowledge for the tribe.
I realize the importance of the needs of all the tribal
members, regardless of where they reside. I also realize
there are a lot of obstacles standing in the way of
providing services to everyone. My hopes are to find a
way through these obstacles-to make opportunities for
more of the members of the tribe. Ideally, I would like
to see more employment, education, health and human
services, for everyone. I know strong efforts are being
made in these areas, and I am thankful.
I feel if Council works together, we can make the right
decisions to a better and self-sufficient future for our
tribe. I am asking for your support in the upcoming
tribal elections.

PATRICIA MARTIN
My name is Patti Tom Martin, and I have been
nominated for a position on the Tribal Council. This is
a great honor, and a serious undertaking. As a tribal
member, I feel the council should represent the diversity
of the tribal membership, and should be continually
working to develop skills relevant to public service.
Therefore, the duty of a council member must be to
recognize that the effort of policy-making not only
impacts the current membership, but the tribe's future
