Smoke Signals April 1992 Page 6 Lewis Riggs dies at 71 Tribal member Lewis L Riggs died on Feb. 11, 1992 at the age of 71 due to pneumonia. He was born in Willamina on May 24, 1920. A veteran of World War II, Lewis Riggs served in the Navy on the U.S.S. Wasp during 1943-45. The family of Lewis Riggs would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Father Crunican for his words of enlightenment, to Mark Mercier for delivering the eulogy, and to the people who prepared the food for the luncheon after the funeral. Lewis L. Riggs was survived by his wife of more than 52 years, Doris (LaRose) Riggs, his daughters; Frances Byars, Louise Caulson, Georgine Gray, Euna Birchum and his sons; Lewis L. Riggs HI, and David Riggs, and his sister Verna Larsen from Grand Ronde.
