Page 11 April 1992 Smoke Signals You are invited to Education Open House On April 23, 1992, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., at the Tribal Community Center, the Education Programs are sponsoring an Eduational Open House to share information about educational services and programs. Both Higher Education and Adult Voca tional Training students who are currently in school are invited to attend. If you wish to learn information about Tribal Educa tional services and programs, please join us. A light dinner will be provided. All parents and students who plan on entering a community college, four year college, or university during the 1992-1993 school year, are invited to join us for a College Breakfast, on April 29, 1992. This activity is sponsored by the Education Program to assist, answer questions and help parents and students with preparations for entering college. On hand will be representatives from several community college, college and university programs. The breakfast will be held in the Tribal Community Center from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. If you are interested in attending, please call Dean Azule or Shawn Hostler at 1-800-422-0232. Set target date to quit smoking, then quit Set a target date to quit smoking in the next week or two. Don't let anything change it. Try to quit "cold," rather than slowly cutting down on the amount you smoke each day. By quitting "cold" your body can begin to get better much sooner. Also, if you show any of the signs that you body is getting better (withdrawal), these will last a shorter time if you quit "cold." Today's date: I will quit on: Plan Ahead Stock up on gum, hard candy, tooth picks, carrots or celery. Fill a jar with the money you save from not buying cigarettes. Try to put some money in the jar each day. When you finish a meal and want to smoke, brush your teeth instead. Try to cut down on coffee and alcohol. Think about the situations during the day that will make you want to have a cigarette. Then avoid those situations. Talk to someone about quitting. What to do on quit day Below are some ways to help you get through your first day without smoking. "Throw away all of your cigarettes. Get rid of matches and lighters at home and at work. Clean and get all ashtrays out of your home, your workplace and car. Keep busy and try not to think about cigarettes. Start a new crafts project. Go for walks. Visit a friend or family member who doesn't smoke. Do something special for yourself. Go to a movie or buy yourself a little gift. Tell your friends, family and co workers that you have quit. Ask them for help.
