Tribal Dental Clinic to open soon
by Dr. Tammy McClung
The new Tribal Dental Clinic is tentatively sched
uled to open on March 10th in the Community
Center.
On staff will be Rose Jhtunicum, Pam Wilson and
Tammy McClung. Rose is a member of the Makah
tribe and will be serving as the dental receptionist.
Pam is our dental assistant as well as a Grand
Ronde tribal member. Dr. McClung will continue
to serve as our tribal dentist.
The clinic will have three treatment rooms with
new equipment. (Those of you who have visited our
temporary office will really appreciate the differ
ence!) Included in the clinic will be a laboratory, a
sterilization area and two offices. In the near
future, we will be adding a hygienist and another
assistant to our staff. This wUl allow us to keep up
with growth of the practice.
If you or your family is in need of dental work or
has not had a dental exam in the past year, please
contact us to make an appointment. Anyone who is
on the deferred list for dental, please contact us.
We will now be able to provide most of those
services.
If you have school-age children, it is especially
important that we see them every 6 months. This
will help prevent dental problems in the future.
Dr. McClung is also interested in seeing toddlers
aged 2 12 years and up. An early visit such as this
can be a gentle introduction to dentistry. This
would also be an ideal time for parents to ask any
questions concerning their child's dental develop
ment. Our staff is anxious to meet you and your family.
We look forward to seeing you in the office. Please
call Rose at 1-800-422-0232 or local 879-5211 for an
appointment

Tribal Forester gets the Ax!
by Cathy Cline, Editor
After four and one-half years of hard work and
dedication, Tribal Forester Cliff Adams gets the ax from
the Tribal Council.
An ax, he says, he "will always cherish." And why
shouldn't he? It's gold plated!
Having Adams give his annual update report for the
Forestry Department at the February 2, general council
meeting was the perfect camouflage for the Tribal
Council to present him with the token of their apprecia
tion for his years of hard work and commitment.
"This comes as quite a surprise," Adams told the
Council. "I want you to know I really appreciate this."
It also came as a suprise for him to learn about his
nomination, made by the Tribal Council, for an
Intertribal Timber Council (ITC) Award.
The ITC was established to create a network of tribal
forestry lands across the United States and offers the
Earle Wilcox Memorial NationalRegional Award only
once a year to the top tribal forestermanager.
In the letter submitting Adams' nomination, Tribal
Chairman Mark Mercier wrote, "Cliff has been most
conscientious in maximum utilization of forest manage
ment, using state-of-the-art methods. Our Tribal
Council is pleased with Cliffs dedication to his work."
As an Oregon State University graduate of Forest
Engineering, Adams said he is committed to his job
because he finds certain aspects of it to be challenging.
"I enjoy the responsibility of my job," he said. "The
challenging part is bringing many elements of a large,
complicated plan together."
"My personal goal is to set up a really good forestry
program for the tribe," Adams said. "To bring forth and
upgrade the program so it will continue and last."
. Adams is obviously on a mission and, with ax in hand,
there is little to stop him.
