Smoke Signals February 1992 page 6 JUNIOR AND SENIOR MISS GRAND RONDE 1992-1993 The Junior and Senior Miss Grand Ronde of 1992 1993 will be chosen from the entries which meet all of the following requirements. If you meet these require ments and would like to serve the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde as a princessspokesperson, please fill out the accompanying application and return it to us. We wish you luck! I. Must be an enrolled member of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde Community of Oregon. 2 Junior Cour ages are 11 through 14 years of age, Senior Court ages are 15 through 19 years of age. 3. Must be single, childless, and never married. 4. If school age, must be attending school, and submit a letter of verification of school of attendance. 5. Must be able to attend all required events, (Pow wows, Parades, Organizational metings, and Fundraisers.) Unless pre-arranged with the committee. No more than three unexcused absences of required functions. 6. Must be willing to speak in front of large groups. 7. Willing, by your behavior, to represent with pride for your heritage. 8. Must be drug and alcohol free. Any misconduct will result in an immediate disqualification from the Royalty Court. 9. You will be expected to show good judgement, in that you do not participate in any activities that would bring adverse publicity to the Tribe, while you are a member of the Royalty Court. 10. Must be willing to dance, (If you do not know how, assistance will be offered). II. You must have appropriate Regalia for all events. 12. Failure to meet any of the requirements may result in the immediate disqualification from the Royalty Court. 17. There may be other required events requested, which may not be mentioned at this time. There will be a deadline for entry this year, March 31, 1992, and this is scored on a point system. We have set a deadline for March 31, 1992. OR 97347 Native American Dance Theater The Johnson O'Malley (JOM) program is sponsor ing a family field trip for participants and their parents. Priority will be given to JOM participants. We are estimating at returning around 6:30pm and are all responsible for brown bagging our own lunch. ,The Native American Dance Theater will be performing at Portland's Civic Coliseum Feb. 2, at 3:00 pm. There will be a chartered bus leaving the tribal offices at 12:30pm in order to arrive before 3:00 pm. Only 30 tickets are available. If you have insurance, medicare etc., you need to be sure to send any explanation of benefits andor bills you are receiving- Note: Contract Health will not pay for patients with insurance or medicare jf we do not receive an explanation of benefits. We will be closing Fiscal Year 1991 and all pre authorized bills need to be submitted to Contract Health before March 31, 1992. High School Seniors Scholarships available for 1992-1993 The Oregon State System of Higher Education is offering scholarships for the 1992-1993 school year to graduating high school seniors and GED recipients for the 1992-1993 school year. The Underrepresented Minorities Achievement Scholarship Program grants scholarships of $2,500 each academic year to prospective college students who are African American, Alaskan Native-American Indian, or Hispanic. The scholarships are granted on a competitive basis focusing on leadership and academics. Application deadline is March 1, 1992, for first time freshman students, and May 1, 1992, for transfer students at the junior class standing. Eligibility criteria for applying is: -US citizen or permanent resident status, -Resident of Oregon, -Graduate of an Oregon high school or GED certifi cate recipient, -apply for admission to and meet the regular freshman admission requirements at a state college or university where you plan to enroll, -verify membership in one of the following ethnic racial groups (African American, Alaskan Native, American Indian, Hispanic).
