Wind River Timber Sale Approved Tribal Council approved the Wind River Timber Sale on Wednesday, Jan 8, at the weekly Tribal Council meeting. The Timber Committee is recommending the proposed Wind River Timber Sale be done by sealedoral auction on February 13, 1992 at 2:00pm. All sealed bids will be considered before the oral auction begins. The oral auction will begin with the highest bid from the sealed auction. "Offering both a sealed and an oral opportunity to bid gives everyone a fair chance to bid competitively against each other," Cliff Adams, Tribal Forester, said. The sale will be advertised in three major Oregon papers and specifically to 75-100 prospective buyers. The purchaser, company with the highest bid of sealedoral auction, will be awarded the rights to approximately 2.7 million board feet of timber and also other various forest products. All clearcutting will be contracted out by the purchaser. Cliff Adams, the Tribal Forester, plans to have all 60 acres of the Wind River area reforested within one year. Ten percent of the funds generated from the sale will help pay for reforestation and forest enhancement projects. j PRIVATE I 1 v FGEND Approximate scale: 1 inch - 1000 feet vHl Reserve area Tractor yarding area (seosonal restriction) Stream buffer Previous sale area (reserve) Boundary - cutting oreo : Existing road Approved landing location Stream cleaning required (below asterik) Survey corner found i Reservation boundary 4"F! This surplus of government contracted food is being allocated through out the country to the homeless and other agencies in need. Tribal Council approved a proposal from the ad hoc Desert Share Committee to offer one-half of the food to the needy in the surrounding communities. The Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde ordered several 40 foot trailers full of food to be delivered at some time in the near future. The exact date of distribu tion is unknown, but will be announced as soon as possible. The ad hoc Desert Share Committee convened on Jan. 13, 1992 to establish a means of distributing the food. It was decided, by the committee, to use the Desert Share food in a manner which would benefit the tribe as a whole. Distribution of one-half of the surplus food will be distributed to tribal members only. With priority given to the elders and shut-ins, the food will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis to tribal members on the enrollment roster. The committee agreed to offer the other half of the food received to the City of Willamina and Wes Shanks for distribution to the needy in our surrounding commu nities. These parties are responsible for storing and distributing their half of the surplus food. All tribal members will be notified at a later time with more information regarding the exact date and times of distribution.
