Smoke Signals December, 1991 Pape 8 GED CLASSES r " JOBS Program and Services GED classes arc to provide an opportunity, for individu als that have not completed their high school education, to receive their GED. The classes are in Grand Ronde. WHEN: MONDAY AND FRIDAY MORNINGS (1991-1992) TIME: 9:00 A.M. TO 11:00 A.M. WHERE: GRAND RONDE TRIBAL SENIOR MEALSITE (Near Tribal Offices on Ackerson Rd.) ELIGIBILITY: The GED classes are offered to assist any enrolled tribal member and enrolled tribal members who are on AFS & their families. (No fees charged) The classed will also be offered to non-tribal Indians & non-Indians. Associated costs will include the instruc tion fee of $21.00 per month (est. duration of three months) and the final test charge of $35.00. INSTRUCTION: The GED classes will cover pre testing assessment, basis skill development, career and vocational evaluation, counseling & career planning , academic self-esteem and practice GED testing pro vided on site. FINAL TEST: Administered by Chemcketa Commu nity College upon completion of the class. Chemeketa final test cost is $ 35.00. POSITION: Accounting Supervisor SALARY: $21,000 $27,000 annually REPORTS TO: Controller CLOSING DATE: December 11, 1991 RESPONSIBILITIES: This position will be responsible for providing support to the Controller by daily supervising accounting staff, reviewing payroll, overseeing month end and general ledger entries, and assisting with audits. DUTIES: -Review check requests and check run prepared by accounts payable staff. -Reviewoversee semi-monthly payroll preparation. -Close general ledger, run reports. -Handleresolve vendor problems, etc. :Help prepare financial statementsfootnotes. -Prepare year-end reconciliations, closures. -Maintain inventory and depreciation schedule. -Assist in the preparation and scheduling of the yearly audit. -Bank reconciliations. -Review general ledgertrial balance monthly. -Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: -Accounting degree or 5 years of progressively respon sible experience in full cycle bookkeeping, fund account ing experience preferred. -Experience using Lotus 123, Paradox, and AccPac software. -Valid Oregon Driver's License. -Experience working with Native Americans TribalIndian preference applies. Tribal members who are applicants or recipients of AFDC assistance and reside in the tribal six county service area. The service area includes the counties of Tillamook, Washington, Multnomah, Yamhill, Polk and Marion. HOW DO YOU BECOME A PARTICIPANT IN THE GRAND RONDE TRIBAL IOBS PROGRAM? - Tell your AFDC caseworker that you are a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde. - Your caseworker will notify the Grand Ronde Tribal JOBS Program. - The Tribal JOBS coordinator will then contact you foran initial intake to determine if you are eligible forservices. - If you are determined to be eligible for services, you will be asked to participate in a comprehensive assessment to determine your skills and needs. An Employment Plan will be developed and imple mented to work towards getting you, and eligible family members, employed and to become self sufficient. - Support services will be provided as necessary and in accordance with program guidelines. JOBS PROGRAM COMPONENTS The Tribal JOBS Program will assist you in getting i. the following types of help: Education Assistance: a) High School Education or High School Equivalency. b) Basic and remedial education to provide individuals with a basic literacy level. c) Education in English proficiency.
