HEALTH PROGRAM NEWS This is a reminder to all Contract Health Service eligible Tribal members that the Health program now has clinic three times a week and a full time dentist, for those eligible for CHS and direct care. It's nearing the end of the fiscal year and contract health money is running short. Contract Health docs require all eligible members that live within a 30 mile radius of the tribal clinic to use the tribal health clinic. CHS cannot pay for routine physicals or exams, immunizations, well child exams or routine pap smears, those services arc avail able through the Tribal clinics, Chcmawa clinic or the public health department. If there are specific proce dures or problems the Nurse Practitioners, Bette or Margaret, will refer out to hospitals or specialists. Also, please remember that emergency room visits arc reviewed for priority level I (loss of life, limb, or senses) services. To insure payment please remember to mail in authorized medical bills and Explanation of Benefits (EOB) from insurances and Medicare as you receive them. Dr. Tammy McClung is the new dentist here at the Tribal Office and is looking forward to seeing each and everyone of you eligible to see her. A dental hygicnist will be available two times a month to clean teeth. Dr. McClung will be able to provide services typically received in a private dental office. This service here at our clinic will also save CHS dollars and provide services CHS usually can not pay for. We are sure everyone wants to help save CHS dollars for those that are really in need of medical services. I am the newest Community Health Representative (CHR) for the Grand Ronde Tribe. I have two teen girls at home, who go to Chcmawa I ligh School in Salem. Rochcllc and Shelly are tradi tional dancers! I grew up here in Grand Ronde and moved away to work in the health field. I had worked at N.A.R A. for two years before coming here. When I was 16 years old, my first job was working at the Grand Ronde Rest Home. My interest has always been working with elders and children. Someday soon, my husband and I would like to be foster parents! I hope to see you soon as I get out in the community! Linda B. Smith, CHR AFS JOBS COORDINATOR Rebecca Crocker, grand-daughter of Wilson Bobb Sr., has been selected as the new Adult & Family Services JOBS Coordinator for the AFS JOBS Program. ' . The JOBS Program assists tribal members who are recipients of ADC assistance and who reside in the tribal six county service area. The Tribal JOBS program will provide assistance in Education, Job Skills training, Job readiness, Job Development and Job Placement. The JOBS Program also pays for Child Care during attendance of educational classes and job training. "The mission of the AFS program is to assist recipients to become self-sufficient. This objective can only be accomplished if the AFS recipients have the motivation and desire to break their dependency on AFS. Chang ing a life-style takes commitment, dedication and lime. The client may need to begin by taking GED classes, vocational education or JTPA training before they are qualified for entry level employment positions," accord ing to Rebecca. "I've found that the majority of tribal members have willingly embraced the program. In fact, they have stated that they want to change their life so that their children will not be on AFS! This determination and commitment to the family will be the key clement for creating change. We, as individuals, tribal members and family members also must encourage the fight against poverty, illiteracy and unemployment within the tribe!", says Rebecca. Rebecca was born is Nyssa, Oregon and has two children; Tracy who attends Lane Community College majoring in Aviation Mechanics and Brian who attends Portland State University majoring in Electronic Engineering. GED CLASSES GED classes are to provide an opportunity, for individu als that have not completed their high school education, to receive their GED. The classes are in Grand Ronde. WHEN: MONDAY AND FRIDAY MORNINGS (1991-1992) TIME: 9:00 A.M. TO 11:00 A.M. WHERE: GRAND RONDE TRIBAL SENIOR MEALSITE (Near Tribal Offices on Ackerson Rd.) ELIGIBILITY: The GED classes arc offered to assist any enrolled tribal member and enrolled tribal members who arc on AFS & their families. (No fees charged) The classed will also be offered to non-tribal Indians & non-Indians. Associated costs will include the instruc tion fee of $21.00 per month (est. duration of three months) and the final test charge of $35.00. INSTRUCTION: The GED classes will cover pre testing assessment, basis skill development, career and vocational evaluation, counseling & career planning , academic self-esteem and practice GED testing pro vided on site. FINAL TEST: Administered by Chcmckc'ta Commu nity College upon completion of the class. Chemckela final test cost is $ 35.00.
