We were competing with the sunshine, and the sun won out!!. For those of you who are still interested: TOE NEXT MEETING IS SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 21ST AT 5:30 P.M. AT THE FORESTRY OFFICE. We were hoping to schedule a culture fair for the restoration celebration-is anyone still interested? The fair would include singing and drumming demonstra tions, jargon lessons, family photo exhibits, etc. This is a great opportunity for our families to share our histories, and to learn more about our tribal history. If this sounds interesting, please come to the meeting on the 21st and help us plan the event. We are doing the groundwork for the tribal cultural center project and have met with the curator of the new facility at Warm Springs who she shared a lot of valu able planning information with us. This facility will not only share our tribal history with others, but will be a place for us to train our own tribal members in history, language and tribal culture. I have been videotaping elders at the mealsite one Thursday a month. The October date will be the 17th at 1:00 p.m. ANY ELDERS WITH A STORY (A FAMILY STORY OR A TRADITIONAL INDIAN STORY), PLEASE COME AND SHARE IT WITH US! We want these precious bits of history to share with future generations. Ila Dowd has participated several times, , and her stories have been great! For those of you who feel that you are timid, there is always a good group of "supporters" there ready to giggle and laugh at the appropriate times, so come on over! If you have questions about any of these activities, please call Shelley in Economic Development at (503) 879-5211, ext. 153. Is Your Business Interested In Selling To The State Of Oregon? By the 1st of October, the Economic Development Department will be hooked up to the "On-line Procure ment System with the Oregon Department of General Services." We will be using a computer in our office, and communicating by modem with the State's system in Salem. General Services purchases $150 million in goods and services each year on behalf of the State of Oregon. This new system will allow businesses to become familiar with the State's buying habits and procedures as well as allowing businesses interested in bidding for state purchases to do so directly on the computer system. If you are interested in using this service, contact Shelley in Economic Development at (503) 879-5211, ext. 153plcase give me a call after October 1st, so that I have a chance to become familiar with the services and procedures. There will be no charge to tribal members for this service. Arts & Crafts Co-op Update We have had several meetings to organize a coopera tive group to sell Native American produced arts & crafts. Several individuals are doing research and planning for this future organization. They will also be setting up daily operating' procedures and policies.
