They were: James William Bettles of Chiloquin of Chiloquin High School going to Cornell University; Elizabeth Anne Colteei of Lake Oswego of Lakeridge High School going to Harvard University; Timothy B. Hozier of Baker City of Baker High School going to Dartmouth College; Martha O. Perez of Portland of Benson High School going to Portland State University. These students were among the 29 who received a total of more than $68,000 to be renewed for four years if they maintain an average of 2.0 in college. The Oregonian Scholarship is awarded to Oregon and Clark County, Washington high school seniors who have a 3.0 grade average and have cultural and economic disadvantage. The scholarship was started with a $2 million grant from the Samuel I. Newhouse Foundation Inc. The Newhouse family owns The Oregonian. Since the grant was instituted more than 400 students have received monies totalling more than $2.6 million for study in colleges and universities in the U.S. The Oregonian on August 12 honored its new scholar ship winners and renewal winners with a banquet at the Portland Hilton Hotel. Guest speaker was Dr. Judith Remaley, President of Portland State University. WILLAMETTE UNlVtKSITY ANNOUNCES THE 1991 AMERICAN INDIAN CAREER FAIR On October 4, 1991, Willamette University is hosting a Career Fair in the Putman Center on the Salem campus. The fair is being sponsored by the Confeder ated Tribes of Grand Ronde, the Confederated Tribes of Siletz and the Oregon Indian Coalition on Post Secondary Educaiton. The workshop will feature sessions dealing with careers in: Health & Medicine, Law, Forestry, Educaiton, State Government, Journal ism, Scholarships, and College Programs.
