Smoke Signals October 1991 JOBS Program and Services STAFF CHANGES IN HEALTH DEPARTMENT Barbara Steere is now the new Health ClerkRecep tionist. Please call her to make appointments. Darlene Aaron is now the Nurses Assistant and does all Clinic Coo-ordination. Bonnie Martin is now CHR Co-ordinator. She works with Joe Brisbois and at the present time they are doing interviews for the 3rd CHR. They hope to have this person on by the first of the month. Jerry Brandon and Tammy Ohmacht are J.P.TA persons. They've been working very hard on our Medical Record file system, plus various other jobs. Margaret Walker is the Nurse Practioner working on Friday's and after the first of October will be working Clinic on Tuesdays. Starting October 1st we will have a dentist working at the Tribal Health Department in Grand Ronde, Mon day through Friday, 9:00 to 4:00. The dentist will be Tammy McClung. You may call the Health Department to make appointments. We will also be adding another day to our Health Clinic. Starting October 8th, 1991, clinic will be held on every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.. For appointments please call Barbara Steere at 1-800-422-0232 or (503) 879-5211. Baby Fair Coming Soon! The Baby Fair, sponsored by the Tribal Health Program, is coming this December. Watch 'Smoke Signals' for more information. WHO IS ELIGIBLE? Tribal members who are applicants or recipients of AFDC assistance and reside in the tribal six county service area. The service area includes the counties of Tillamook, Washington, Multnomah, Yamhill, Polk and Marion. HOW DO YOU BECOME A PARTICIPANT IN THE GRAND RONDE TRIBAL JOBS PROGRAM? , Tell your AFDC caseworker that you are a member of the Confederated Tribes of the Grand Ronde. Your caseworker will notify the Grand Ronde Tribal JOBS Program. The Tribal JOBS coordinator will then contact you foran initial intake to determine if you are eligible forservices. - If you are determined to be eligible for services, you will be asked to participate in a comprehensive assessment to determine your skills and needs. An Employment Plan will be developed and imple mented to work towards getting you, and eligible family members, employed and to become self sufficient. - Support services will be provided as necessary and in accordance with program guidelines. JOBS PROGRAM COMPONENTS The Tribal JOBS Program will assist you in getting the following types of help: Education Assistance: a) High School Education or High School Equivalency. b) Basic and remedial education to provide individuals with a basic literacy level. c) Education in English proficiency. Job Skills Training: - Vocational Training Job Readiness Activities: - Activities geared to prepare the participant for workplace expectations. Job Development and Job Placement Activities: a) Identifying and locating labor market opportunities. b) Marketing participants c) Securing a job COORDINA TON State of Oregon (Title IV-A Agency) - The Adult and Family Services Division is respon sible for support services for child care while you are a participant in the Tribal JOBS Program. Grand Ronde Tribal JOBS Program - The Tribal JOBS Program will provide coordin ation and referral with other appropriate agencies, such as the JTPA agency and Tribal Education Program. . - JTPA Agency referral may include: a) Job search assistance b) Classroom training programs c) Work experience program activities d) On the job training - Tribal Education Program referrals may include: a) Johnson O'Malley b) Adult Vocational Training c) Higher Education d) Adult Education - Other Agencies as Appropriate For more information call the JOBS coordinator at (503) 879-5211 or 1 800-422-0232, ext. 152. U.S.D.A. NEWS October Distribution for Salem will be the 8th, 9th, and 10th. We will only be there until our last appointment on the last day. Distribution dates for Silctz will be the 21st, 22nd and 23rd. We would appreciate it if you would please keep your appointments, as it is inconvenient for the ones that do. Food Stamps and U.S.D A food may noj be received at the same time. The U.S.D A. staff reports your Social Security Number when you receive food, as does the Food Stamp Office. This will identify any dual partici pation. If you are found to be on both U.S.DA. and Food Stamps, you will be disqualified from both pro grams. U.S.D A.
