r Smoke Signals July 1991 page 5 1991 TRIBAL HUNTING SEASONS & INFORMATION The Fish and Wildlife Committee will be issuing 345 deer, 44 elk and 4 bear tags to eligible tribal members for the 1991 hunting season. The following guidelines have ben adopted by the Fish and Wildlife Committee to give as many tribal members as possible the opportunity to use their hunting privileges. Tribal members, please remember that you still must follow State hunting laws, seasons and bag limits. Tags issued by the Tribe are only valid in the Trask Manage ment Unit (consult your Hunting, Fishing, and Gather ing Handbook for description. If you haven't picked up the revised 1991 copy , contact Karen at the tribal office). To exercise your tribal hunting privileges, you must have: 1) A tribal identification card; 2) a valid annual hunting sticker attached to the back of the I.D. card and; 3) the appropriate deer, elk or bear tag issued by the Tribe. DEER TAGS This year, the 345 deer tags for bow, general and muz zleloader hunts will be available on a first come, first serve basis. Tribal members will be issued one deer tag at a time. For instance, if you have a bow deer tag, you will be ineligible to receive a general deer tag until the bow deer tag is returned or a kill reported. APPLICATION GUIDELINES The following hunts require that you fill out the appropriate tag application form: Bear (4 tags available) Bow Elk (10 tags available) First Season Elk (26 tags available) Second Season Elk (14 tags available) ControlDamage & Pool Elk Hunts (12 tags) In order to apply for tags for hunts requiring an application form, tribal members must do the following: Complete only one application per category. Multiple applications per category will result in all applications being invalidated for the individual. All tags must be completely filled out and into the Fish and Wildlife Program by 5:00 pm on August 8th, 1991. Any tags received after the deadline will not be considered for the drawing and will be returned to the applicant. This will include incomplete tag application forms. Tag winners will be selected and announced at the public drawing held at 6:30 pm on August 8th, 1991 at the Tribal Office. Winners will need to pick up their tags in person. Deer tags will be made available also following the drawing. Tags can be picked up following the drawing, during regular business hours Monday - Friday, or from 1:00 3:00 pm at the Annual Pow-Wow on August 17th, 1991. GENERAL ELK Tribal members can select their preference for the first or second season elk hunt. The preference must be circled on the application form. If no preference is selected or both circled, the application will be invali dated. Elk tags must be returned by the established deadlines. Tags not returned will be called into the state police and invalidated and the tribal member shall be subject to state and tribal penalties. BEAR Tribal members who would like a bear tag will need to complete the appropriate tag application form and submit it by the established deadline. There are 5 bear tags available. BOWELK Those interested in the bow elk hunt may also submit an application for a general elk hunt, but their name will be withdrawn from the general elk hunt if they win a bow tag. Thus, the bow elk tag winners will not be eligible for a first or second season elk tag unless there are remaining tags after the general season drawing. CONTROLDAMAGE AND POOL HUNTS Bow, first and second season hunt tag applicants may. also apply for controldamage and pool hunts. The number of tags available will depend on hunt conditions within the Trask Unit. When a tag becomes available, those on the controldamage list will be notified in the order their name is selected at the drawing.
