Social Services: Director - Tom Jones, Joann Mercier, Secretary - Carmen Standing Bear; This program was designed to assist Tribal members in needs concerning Indian Child Welfare cases, family and community services, and to assist eligible Tribal mem bers receive U.S.D A commodities. The Social Services program also monitors a referral system for clients who need services and resources and the program also provides parenting classes for clients. The Social Services department has also established a Jobs program for Tribal members. This project will provide education and training for Tribal members receiving from the Aid to Family's with Dependant Children program. This project was designed to get clients off of welfare and teach them skills that they can use in the workplace. The Social Services department has recently estab lished a senior services program to offer services to the Tribal elders. The funding of the senior services pro gram brought about the need to have a place for a meal site. The Tribe purchased property in the Grand Ronde area near the current Tribal Offices and renovated a house that will be used as a senior services meal site in the very near future. Elaine Smith and Shelly Kent have been hired to work for the senior services program at the new location. Elaine will be the head cook and Shelly will be the cook's helper ,, -gsft ,04 xx if .r h I V '! ' 1 I Social Services receptionist Carmen Standing Bear New Face in the Lobby Fresh from having completed a nine month course in professional office administration at Trend College, Melanie Smith brings a smiling face and comprehensive skills to her new job as Tribal Receptionist. Melanie, whose mother is Carmen Standing Bear, said that she likes her new job with the Tribe. "It's a comfortable atmosphere especially for my first job. The fact that I know almost everybody out here makes it alot easier," said Melanie. She said that one of her goals was to work for the Tribe. "I've been wanting to get on out here ever since I started going to school." Her desire to work for the Tribe motivated her to be ready for her interview. "Melanie came in with a real professional approach to the job in the interview," said the Tribes General Manager, Jim Willis. "I think that she clearly convinced people she was the right person for the position. She showed confidence and organiza tion and that's what impressed us." Melanie's immediate supervisor, Mary Trevino was equally impressed with her new employees' skills. "So far she is really doing a good job and she seems to enjoy her job," said Trevino. "She is always more than willing to help out where she is needed and she interacts well with people."
